NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #37
13th December, 2009
Rainworth Miners Welfare extended their lead at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division with a 6-0 drubbing of hosts Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Three goals in eight first half minutes saw the Wrens take full control against the side next-to-bottom in the table.
Brendan Sweeney and then Ant Lynam twice pounced to give them the advantage.
Ian Clarke, Danny Naylor and Lewis Trimmer made sure of the victory in the second period.
The gap between the Wrens and the rest has grown after Armthorpe Welfare dropped points at home to an in-form Arnold Town.
Joe Naylor put the visitors ahead just before the interval but Bruno Holden's 67th-minute equaliser ensured that both sides left the game with a point each.
Hopping above Armthorpe into second place is Bridlington Town who won 2-0 at Parkgate.
Alex Rhodes got both of their goals in the first half to inflict a defeat on the home side that drops them into the bottom three.
Scarborough Athletic stay fourth after two late goals denied them a victory at home to Maltby Main.
Craig Hogg had put them two-up with goals in first-half stoppage time and then on the hour.
But, Main stayed in the game thanks mainly to the heroics of their keeper and then Greg Mason struck twice in quick succession in the last ten minutes to snatch them a point.
Fifth-placed Thackley moved to within five points of the top four with a 1-0 victory at Pickering Town, Nicky Matthews with the goal on 60 minutes.
A Steve Lyon brace helped Selby Town to climb over Arnold into sixth as they won 2-1 at Dinnington Town.
Shirebrook Town moved out of the bottom three after Brett Adams' 70th-minute strike gave them a 1-0 win at Hall Road Rangers.
Christopher Wood made it seven goals in three games as he struck twice in Hallam's 6-0 home win over Liversedge.
He had put them two-up before an Aaron Oddy own goal and then strikes from Daniel Smith, Ryan Tate and Lee Naughton made it a very comfortable afternoon at Sandygate for them.
Shane Newton and Kevin Mabon found the net, one in each half, as Long Eaton United moved into the top nine with a 2-0 victory at home to bottom side Brodsworth Welfare.
And, goals in the first twenty minutes for Tom Thornton and Graham Marchant earned Nostell Miners Welfare a 2-0 victory at Winterton Rangers.
A gap has now grown between the top two in Division One and the rest.
Leaders Staveley Miners Welfare were 2-1 winners at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Christopher Coy and a Jamie Smith penalty were their goals before a Danny Robinson own goal pulled one back in injury time for Athletic.
Still one point behind them are Leeds Carnegie who won a 4-3 thriller at Glasshoughton Welfare.
Daniel Clapham struck twice to have the hosts two up in the opening ten minutes but Carnegie had pulled it back by the break, first through Andy Cooper and then an Alex Smith penalty.
The visitors then went 4-2 up with Chibuzor Chilaka getting the third and Cooper his second by the 73rd minute.
A Matt Chilton own goal late on made it nerve-wracking but the away side held on for the win.
Tadcaster Albion took advantage of AFC Emley's lack of a game to move above them into third place.
But, despite a Darren Brandon hat-trick, they were made to work hard for it at home to Rossington Main as the game finished at Ings Lane 4-4.
Pontefract Collieries stay fifth despite an excellent 4-1 win at Yorkshire Amateur.
They had to come from behind after Fernando Moke had the Ammers ahead after just three minutes.
Two Mark Vickerage penalties helped Askern Villa to a 5-1 victory at Barton Town Old Boys.
Eccleshill United stay bottom after their 2-1 loss at Brighouse Town whilst Teversal were beaten by a Paul Chatterton 19th minute penalty at Bottesford Town.
And, Appleby Frodingham drew 1-1 at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
