NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #36
10th December, 2009
Pickering Town made it two KoolSport NCEL sides in the last 32 of the FA Vase but they were made to fight all the way at Dunkirk on Tuesday night.
The game went into a penalty shoot-out after a dramatic few minutes at the end of normal time led to a further thirty minutes.
Liam Salt had given the Pikes a first half lead but that cancelled out after the break by a spot kick for the East Midlands Counties side.
Pickering then must have thought they were through when Salt grabbed his and their second in the third minute of injury time.
But, Dunkirk equalised once again to take the match into extra-time.
There were no further goals so it went to penalties which Pickering won 5-4 to book a Fourth Round tie at home to Marske United.
Armthorpe Welfare have climbed to second in the Premier Division after their 3-1 win at home to Shirebrook Town.
Bruno Holden and Liam Hardy had them two up by the interval before Simon Johnson gave the visitors hope in the 50th minute.
But, Henry Sibenge put the game to bed as it went into its final quarter.
Armthorpe are now two points behind the leaders, Rainworth Miners Welfare, whilst Shirebrook remain in the bottom three.
In Division One, Leeds Carnegie's 9-0 home thumping of Rossington Main on Monday night has lifted them up into second spot.
They were up by five before half-time with Andy Cooper and Kyle Ross each netting twice whilst Alex Smith also got on the scoresheet.
In the second half, Marco made it six before Smith grabbed his second and then Chibuzor Chilaka and Chris Thackray completed the rout in the last fifteen minutes.
Teversal have moved out of the bottom four with a 2-1 victory at Appleby Frodingham.
Callum Green put them ahead on 24 minutes before Callum Dransfield levelled for the hosts after the break.
But, Dave Cockerill got what proved to be the winner just after the hour mark.
Two goals in the first ten minutes helped Glasshoughton Welfare to a 3-2 victory at home to Bottesford Town.
Shaun McMannamin and John Penn gave them the perfect start but Paul Chatterton and Craig Bridge struck in a seven minute period in the second half to bring the scores back level.
However, Glasshoughton fought on and got the winner on 79 minutes from Jordan Missin.
They remain in the bottom three but are now five points clear of the side just below them, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
