NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #34
3rd December, 2009
Arnold Town moved up to ninth in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division after edging out hosts Parkgate in a nine-goal thriller in midweek.
It was a high scoring Tuesday with 28 goals being scored in just four matches in the division.
And, the goal rush began at Green Lane in the opening five minutes as Tony Law put Arnold ahead before Nathan Swindells quickly levelled.
Kevin Brooks restored the Eagles' lead on 24 but an Andrew Gascoigne penalty made sure parity was restored by the interval.
Parkgate then went ahead for the only time of the match when Gascoigne grabbed his second and his side's third on 52 minutes.
Arnold then equalised and took a 4-3 lead through Joe Naylor and Martin Carruthers as the game went into the last quarter-of-an-hour.
Parkgate thought they had rescued a point when Swindells equalised with six minutes remaining but the visitors snatched the winner in a pulsating finale as Carruthers struck again to finish the match at 5-4.
Things were almost as dramatic at Phoenix Park where Dinnington Town and Lincoln Moorlands Railway grabbed a point each in a 4-4 thriller.
It was Moorlands who rescued the encounter, Nick Robinson with the eighth and final goal with nine minutes remaining.
Dinnington had thought they had got the points courtesy of braces from Liam Cartledge and Ben Rosser but Moorlands never gave up with goals also from Jack McGovern, Josh Bowden and Cris Nuttall.
Hallam moved out of the bottom four as, for the second time this season, they struck nine past bottom side Brodsworth Welfare.
There were two goals each for Scott Preece, Christopher Wood, Lloyd Gelsthorpe and Cole Hattersley whilst Simon Asquith also found the net for his 24th of the season.
Long Eaton United are up to eleventh after a 2-0 home win over Maltby Main - Adam Newton and Carl Spencer with the goals in the second period.
In Division One, Pontefract Collieries won 1-0 at Grimsby Borough in the only game on Wednesday night to move up to eighth.
Winterton Rangers are through to the Semi-Finals of the Presidents Cup after a 3-1 victory at Staveley Miners Welfare.
Danny Frost struck twice, once from the penalty spot, and Liam Wilkin also got on the scoresheet for the visitors before Callum Flanagan got an injury time consolation for the home side.
Liversedge notched up a fine win to progress in the West Riding County Cup as they beat hosts Ossett Albion 3-2 in their Second Round tie.
Paul Walker got the late winner, his second of the evening, to send Sedge through.
However, Askern Villa and Brighouse Town bowed out of the competition, losing home ties against Garforth Town and Barnoldswick Town, respectively.
