NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #33
29th November, 2009
Rainworth Miners Welfare have extended their lead at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division after stretching their winning streak to eleven matches.
But, they had to come from behind to get all three points at home to Nostell Miners Welfare.
Matthew Denton put the visitors ahead just before half-time but Massiah McDonald levelled matters on the hour mark and Ant Lynam got what proved to be the winner with fifteen minutes remaining.
Armthorpe Welfare, who began the day in second, dropped points at home to a Thackley side who consolidated their fifth position with a 2-1 victory.
Craig Morley had made the breakthrough for the hosts on 27 minutes but Luke Hudson equalised quickly from the penalty spot.
Hudson then popped up for his and Thackley's second on 72 minutes.
Bridlington Town and Scarborough Athletic climbed over Armthorpe after picking up big wins.
Bridlington were 4-1 victors at Hall Road Rangers, keeping up their record of scoring on average four goals a game.
They fell behind, however, early on through a James McGarry strike.
However, Carl Giblin made sure honours were even by the interval before the Seasiders found a higher gear in the second half.
Scarborough ended what had been a poor run of form for them as they won 5-2 at home to Liversedge.
There were two goals each for Craig Hogg and Ryan Blott whilst Scott Phillips grabbed the fifth.
A Paul Walker penalty and a Jamie Wasley strike were Sedge's goals.
Selby Town kept themselves in seventh place with a fine 4-1 victory at Parkgate.
Steve Lyon struck twice for the Robins and Liam Radford and Brenton Leister completed the job before an injury-time home consolation from Nathan Swindells.
Parkgate drop into the bottom four as a result of their defeat.
Winterton Rangers climb up to eighth with a 4-0 victory at home to bottom side, Brodsworth Welfare.
Gavin Cooper, Danny Frost and Liam Wilkin had them three up by the interval.
They then added one more through Sam Agar on 53 minutes.
Next-to-bottom Lincoln Moorlands Railway picked up a home point in a 1-1 draw with Maltby Main.
They thought they were on their way to all three when Tom Garrick had them ahead with his 25th minute strike until late on.
David Gleeson grabbed an equaliser for Main on 85 to move Maltby up one place to thirteenth.
Shirebrook Town are out of the bottom three after a Ben Kistell brace earned them a 2-1 victory at an out-of-form Long Eaton United.
And, Pickering Town are up into ninth after they won 4-1 at home to Dinnington Town, courtesy of a Liam Salt double as well as goals from John Newton and Chaz Wrigley.
A smaller-than-normal Division One programme was further shortened by a couple of postponements, meaning that none of the top six sides were in action.
Bottesford Town failed to break into the leading half-dozen as they were beaten 2-1 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare to stay seventh.
Daniel Hope got their goal but that was sandwiched by strikes from Andy Haywood and Damien Liddle, all three coming in a ten minute spell towards the start of the second period.
There was very little movement in the table with Barton Town Old Boys going above a matchless Pontefract Collieries into ninth after a 1-1 draw at Yorkshire Amateur.
Hayden Barnett opened the scoring for them on 50 minutes but Fernando Moke rescued a point for the hosts as the game veered towards injury time.
The Ammers drop a place to twelfth, overtaken by Hemsworth.
Two of the bottom three sides met, scored eight goals between them and took a point each from the game.
Glasshoughton Welfare will be disappointed not to have taken all three points from the match with Eccleshill United as they led three times.
They opened the scoring on 26 minutes through Jermaine Moyce but Andrew Fieldhouse quickly equalised.
Two goals from Kurtis Noble either side of half-time gave the hosts a 3-1 advantage but that was pulled back by the 75th minute by the Eagles through Peter Dawson and Keenan Radcliffe.
Glasshoughton went ahead again as Noble claimed his hat-trick.
However, Ian Brock made it 4-4 with three minutes to go.
Teversal won 3-0 at home to Rossington Main, including a brace from Callum Green, and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic picked up their first league win since August, 2-1 at Appleby Frodingham.
