NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #32
26th November, 2009
Rainworth Miners Welfare have leapt to the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division after a 5-0 win at home to bottom side Brodsworth Welfare.
Julian Topliss and Ant Lynam had the Wrens two-up by the tenth minute but had to wait until the hour mark to increase their tally.
Lynam got his second and their third before, in the last ten minutes, Matthew Baxter and Lewis Trimmer completed the scoring.
Rudy Funk's side are two points clear of Armthorpe Welfare who moved up to second after their 4-0 home victory over Pickering Town.
Henry Sibenge and Liam Hardy gave them a two goal cushion by the interval before, like Rainworth, Welfare struck twice late through, Hardy with his second and then their fourth from Bruno Holden.
Armthorpe are now a point ahead of the sides in third and fourth, Bridlington Town and Scarborough Athletic.
A hat-trick from Matthew Mathers helped Thackley continue their gradual rise up the table as they won 4-2 at Hallam.
Andy King got their other goal whilst Nicky Darker and Ryan Tate scored for the home side who remain in the bottom four.
Thackley are now fifth, seven points behind the top four.
In Division One, Leeds Carnegie climb to second, a point behind leaders Staveley Miners Welfare, after a 3-0 win at home to Teversal.
They had to wait until the 55th minute for an opener from Matt Chilton whilst Andy Cooper struck twice in the last quarter-of-an-hour.
Selby Town are through to the Presidents Cup Semi-Finals after a 5-0 win over AFC Emley at the Selby Times Stadium.
Steve Lyon got three of the goals for the Premier Division side whilst Duncan Bray and Marcin Wolski also got on the scoresheet against their Division One opponents.
Tadcaster Albion became the final side to book their place in the last four of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy but they were on the verge of going out at home to Rossington Main.
They needed an injury time equaliser from Darren Brandon to force extra-time with the score at 2-2.
Alan Jackson put them ahead on 99 minutes before a Steven Jeff own goal close to the end of the second period made it 3-3 and a penalty shoot-out.
Tadcaster won the spot kicks, 5-4, and join Bottesford Town, Staveley Miners Welfare and Leeds Carnegie in the Semi-Finals.
It was a great midweek for our clubs who were involved in County Cup action, with all three winning.
Frank Belt's 77th minute penalty saw Bridlington Town progress in the East Riding Senior Cup, 1-0 at home to Westella & Willerby.
And, in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy, Lincoln Moorlands Railway beat visitors Deeping Rangers 2-1 with goals from Josh Bowden and Scott Coupland.
Winterton Rangers were 3-2 victors at home to Holbeach United - Liam Wilkin with two, one a penalty, and Danny Frost with their third - to make it three NCEL teams out of four in the Semi-Finals.
