NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #31
22nd November, 2009
Armthorpe Welfare set up an FA Vase Third Round home clash with KoolSport NCEL rivals, Bridlington Town, thanks to an extra-time victory at Daisy Hill.
They became the League's fourth representative at that stage of the competition as their match at their North West Counties hosts finally got played at the third time of asking.
Armthorpe were two up going into the last seventeen minutes thanks to a brace from Liam Hardy but Daisy Hill struck twice to force a further half hour.
Just as the game looked to be going to replay, Liam Davis struck in the 118th minute to send Welfare through.
Whilst they were in Vase action, they fell out of the top three of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division but remain two points off the lead.
That's because Scarborough Athletic were beaten whilst Bridlington Town and Rainworth Miners Welfare both won - results that leave all three on 37 points as the title chase hots up.
Scarborough, who headed the table at the start of the day, must have thought another three points were on their way when they were 2-0 up by half-time at next-to-bottom Shirebrook Town thanks to goals from Paul Routledge and Craig Hogg.
But, Shirebrook hit back after the interval in spectacular fashion with Craig Wilson netting twice and Dominic Jones finding the net to give the hosts the lead eight minutes after the restart.
Chris Rhodes put the home side further ahead on 66 before Hogg got his second and a third for Scarborough in the last four minutes.
Shirebrook as a result of their 4-3 win move out of the bottom two whilst Scarborough are knocked off the top by a Bridlington side who were comfortable 4-0 home winners over Hallam.
Craig Palmer bagged a first-half hat-trick whilst Phil Harrison scored the fourth on 71 minutes.
Rainworth move up to third after a 3-1 win at Maltby Main, a game that they were behind in up until the 65th minute.
Simon Hickey had put Main ahead but Danny Naylor struck twice and Ian Clarke made sure of the Wrens win as the match turned on its head late on.
A 4-1 victory at home to Winterton Rangers has kept Liversedge in fifth place, Joel Ettiene, Luke Sherman, Paul Walker from the penalty spot and Jamie Wasley making sure of their win.
Thackley were the biggest winners of the day as a 6-1 win over visitors Hall Road Rangers moved them up to sixth.
Shaun Airey got two of the goals with Andy King, Dean Walters, Luke Hudson and Ross Daly making it a thoroughly miserable day for the visitors.
Basement side Brodsworth Welfare picked up their second point of the campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway who fall into the bottom two as a result.
There were home victories for Dinnington Town and Pickering Town who won 2-0 against Nostell Miners Welfare and 3-1 against Parkgate, respectively.
And, there was a goalless draw at Eagle Valley between Arnold Town and Long Eaton United.
Two own goals helped Staveley Miners Welfare become the new leaders of Division One as they won 3-1 at home to Yorkshire Amateur.
Jamie Smith put them ahead early one before Chris Hitchings put the ball into his own net on 39 minutes.
Justin Bowler brought the Ammers back into the game virtually straightaway but Kaydo Fishley then scored at the wrong end before half-time to give Staveley an unassailable two-goal cushion.
The Inkersall Road side go above Tadcaster Albion whose game at Eccleshill United was one of two matches called off, as well as Askern Villa's trip to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
AFC Emley move up into third, three points away from the top, as Josh Wright and Sean Hazelden struck in the opening sixteen minutes for a 2-0 home win over Glasshoughton Welfare.
