NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #29
15th November, 2009
Bridlington Town, Pickering Town and Rainworth Miners Welfare all booked their places in the Third Round of the FA Vase at the weekend.
Just over 1,000 people were at Queensgate for the second weekend running to watch the landlords, Bridlington, take on the tenants, Scarborough Athletic.
Brid, who this week were the "away" side, were looking for revenge after their league defeat to the Seadogs seven days earlier.
Nathan Hotte and Craig Burdick had them 2-0 up by the interval before Ryan Blott gave Scarborough a glimpse of a revival.
Frank Belt made it 3-1 before Scarborough again pulled it back to a one goal deficit through Craig Hogg on 65 minutes.
But, a Wayne Wallace double ensured progress for the Seasiders with a 5-2 victory.
Two goals in the last thirteen minutes by Liam Salt saw Pickering Town go through at the expense of their North West Counties League hosts, Winsford United.
And, Ian Clarke struck twice for Rainworth Miners Welfare as they won by the same scoreline at Westfields of the Midland Football Alliance.
Lincoln Moorlands Railway and Long Eaton United, however, are both out of the competition after losing on their travels.
Moorlands were beaten 3-1 at Dunkirk whilst Long Eaton went down 2-0 at Barwell.
There are trips for Armthorpe Welfare and Hallam in midweek after their games as Daisy Hill and Penrith, respectively, were called off due to the bad weather.
In the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division, Liversedge moved up to fifth position with an emphatic 9-2 win at home to bottom side Brodsworth Welfare.
Paul Walker clearly had his shooting boots on as he scored five of them whilst Luke Sherman grabbed a brace and Brook Newton and Alan Jordan also got on the scoresheet.
Nathan Bradey and Brendan Thompson got the goals for the visitors who have only picked up one point from sixteen games so far.
Danny Frost opened the scoring for Winterton Rangers on the half hour mark of their home clash with next-to-bottom Shirebrook Town.
After the interval, Graeme Severn and Sean Gorman also found the net in their 3-0 victory, a win that moves them up into seventh place.
A hat-trick from Tony Law helped Arnold Town climb to eighth with a 5-2 win at home to Thackley.
Nick Hall and Luke Smithson got on the scoresheet as well whilst Luke Hudson and Ross Daly converted for the away side.
Rob Branagan's injury time winner ensured Maltby Main a 2-1 victory at Nostell Miners Welfare to move them up to thirteenth - that was after Nostell's Graham Marchant had cancelled out Neil Longhurst's opener.
Parkgate were 6-0 winners at home to Dinnington Town to move themselves out of the bottom four.
Nathan Swindells was another hat-trick hero whilst James Mitchell, Andrew Gascoigne and Jamie Jones made it a thoroughly miserable afternoon for Steve Toyne's side.
A fascinating weekend of matches in Division One ended with Tadcaster Albion remaining top of the pile.
They won 2-1 at home to AFC Emley, who began the day in third position.
All three goals came in an eight minute period towards the start of the second half with Mike Braithwaite opening the scoring for Taddy, Mark Stuart equalising and Steven Jeff getting the winner.
They stay two points ahead of second placed Staveley Miners Welfare who picked up a comfortable 4-1 victory at Grimsby Borough.
Kevan Short had put the hosts in the lead on twenty minutes before Kyle Fores-Chambers levelled proceedings by the interval.
Scott Ellis, Jamie Smith and Scott Bates ensured the win for Staveley in the second half.
Leeds Carnegie climb to third, above AFC Emley, after 4-2 win at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
A Ross Haywood own goal followed by strikes from Danny Keen and Kyle Ross meant they had a three goal advantage by half-time.
Paul Benton got Hemsworth back into it early on in the second period before Chibuzor Chilaka made it 4-1 with eight minutes remaining.
Andy Hayward got a late second for the home side who drop into the bottom four as a result of their defeat.
Two goals from Lee Burgess plus one each from Andy Markham and Lee Malcher moved Brighouse Town up into fifth after a 4-0 win at home to Barton Town Old Boys, going above Askern Villa who lost 2-0 at home to Appleby Frodingham.
Bottesford Town and Rossington Main gained a point each after a thrilling 4-4 draw.
Main, who were winning 2-1 at half-time, needed an injury time equaliser from Dean Thornton to make sure they grabbed a draw.
Pontefract Colliers climb into the top half of the table after a 3-1 victory at Glasshoughton Welfare.
Teversal are out of the bottom four following a 2-1 win at home to basement side, Eccleshill United.
Eccleshill stay a point behind Worsbrough Bridge Athletic who lost 3-2 at Yorkshire Amateur, courtesy of a late winner from Fernando Moke.
And, Hall Road Rangers are out of the East Riding Senior Cup at the Second Round stage after a 3-2 defeat at Sculcoates Amateurs.
A James McGarry penalty and a goal from Adam Walker was not enough to keep them in the competition.
