NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #9
7th September, 2009
Grimsby Borough, Tadcaster Albion and Armthorpe Welfare are through to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Vase after victories on Saturday.
An extra-time winner from Matthew Oswin saw Grimsby Borough progress at Gedling Miners Welfare.
That was after their first half opener from Richard Creer was cancelled out by Craig Boulton for the hosts after the interval.
Tadcaster won by the same scoreline at fellow NCEL outfit, Glasshoughton Welfare.
They took the lead through Brad Dowling on 20 minutes before an Andrew Price leveller early in the second half.
But, a Philip Biscombe strike just after the hour mark meant victory for Taddy.
A brace from Liam Nelthorpe in the first eleven minutes saw Armthorpe Welfare through with a 2-0 victory at Sunderland RCA.
Glasshoughton apart, six other NCEL sides saw their FA Vase challenge fall at the first hurdle.
Staveley Miners Welfare were the unluckiest as a young side went to Runcorn Linnets and were beaten 4-3 in extra-time.
Teversal and Yorkshire Amateur lost by a single goal at home to Sleaford Town and away to West Auckland Town, respectively.
And, Barton Town Old Boys were beaten by the same scoreline at Ollerton Town.

They were two-up going into the last quarter of the game thanks to first half goals from Nathan Hotte and Ashley Dexter.
But, the Eagles faded badly as Craig Palmer claimed a hat-trick, Dexter notched up his second and Danny Buttle also got onto the scoresheet.
Selby Town move up to third after a thrilling 4-3 victory at Liversedge.

Luke Ibbetson claimed Selby's fourth as the game came towards its end before Paul Walker hit the hosts third as the game went into stoppage time.
A hat-trick from Richard Medcalf helped Scarborough Athletic to a 5-1 home win over Dinnington Town, a victory that moves the Seadogs up into fourth place.
Daniel Moore and Daniel Gray also got on the scoresheet for them whilst Liam Cartledge got the consolation on a miserable afternoon for the visitors who drop to eleventh.
And, Nostell Miners Welfare are into the top five after Danny Highley's goal on the half-hour earned them a 1-0 win at home to Shirebrook Town.
Shirebrook remain without a point and without a goal after their opening three matches.
But, they are kept off the bottom by Brodsworth Welfare who lost 1-0 at Pickering Town, Darren Clough's 22nd minute goal earning the Pikes the second win of their campaign.
Ant Lynam scored one of the League's quickest goals this season when he opened the scoring at home to Hall Road Rangers after just 42 seconds.

And two goals in three minutes halfway through the second period saw Maltby Main draw 1-1 at home to Parkgate.
Rob Branagan put the home side ahead but their lead was quickly cancelled out by Luke Fletcher.
There were five matches played in Division One and, surprisingly, it was a quiet day in front of goal with only ten scored, half of those coming from one game.
That was at the Fitzwilliam Stadium where Hemsworth Miners Welfare were beaten 5-0 by their visitors, Brighouse Town.
David Watson put Brig ahead on 31 minutes before Nathan Cartman doubled their advantage midway through the second period.
A hat-trick in the last twenty minutes from Wayne Crossley, the last being an injury time penalty ensured a very comfortable afternoon for the away side.
Brighouse Town are now fourth whilst Hemsworth drop in to the bottom four.
Askern Villa's excellent start to the season continued as they drew 0-0 at home to Leeds Carnegie to climb into second spot, two points behind leaders Tadcaster Albion.
