NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #8
3rd September, 2009
Armthorpe Welfare and Bridlington Town continued their 100% starts to the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division season with victories on Bank Holiday Monday.
Armthorpe made it four wins out of four as Kyle Thompson, Liam Hardy and Paul Ashton earned them a 3-0 triumph at home to Liversedge.
That victory takes the Church Street side's goal tally to twenty already for the league season.
Bridlington Town won 2-0 at Selby Town thanks to second half strikes from Nathan Hotte and Craig Burdick to move up into second place on nine points.
Brodsworth Welfare remain bottom of the table after a 4-0 defeat at Hall Road Rangers as James McGarry netted twice and Paul Palmer and Jamie Barnwell also grabbed a goal each.
Long Eaton United and Winterton Rangers were both 3-1 winners at home.
Dean Whiley and Craig Mitchell put Long Eaton two-up by the half-hour against Nostell Miners Welfare before Neil Beardsmore pulled one back just after the break for the visitors.
Shane Newton made sure of the victory with an injury time third for Mark Harvey and Andy Worrall's side.
And, a Gary Jones brace helped Winterton to their win against Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Liam Wilkin grabbed the third whilst Nick Robinson scored for Railway.
Scarborough Athletic were 2-0 winners at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare in the battle of the promoted sides, with Scott Phillips scoring twice in the second half, once from the penalty spot.
Tian Walton's 39th-minute strike separated the sides at Eagle Valley where Arnold Town entertained Pickering Town.
And, Thackley were 2-1 victors at Dinnington Town with Rob Ward's 76th-minute penalty proving to be the winner.
In the one Premier Division game played on Wednesday, Maltby Main moved up to third with a 2-2 draw at home to Hallam.
It was the first match in the top-flight this season to end all square - the 34th game of the campaign - but it almost didn't finish that way as it needed an injury-time equaliser from Main's Greg Mason.
In Division One, AFC Emley climbed up to second with a 3-0 win at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Dean Sidebottom scored two and Steven Kenworthy grabbed his eighth of the season to preserve Emley's 100% record.
And, Barton Town Old Boys picked up their first points of the campaign as Gareth Barlow's fourteenth minute strike claimed a 1-0 win at Appleby Frodingham.
Finally, despite a first half goal from Lee Gregory and a battling display, Staveley Miners Welfare bowed out of the FA Cup, beaten 3-1 at home by Clitheroe in their Preliminary Round Replay.
