NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #7
30th August, 2009
Five KoolSport NCEL sides have progressed into the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
Winterton Rangers were the biggest winners in their Extra Preliminary tie at home to St Andrews as they coasted to a 6-1 victory.
Gary Jones had put them ahead on the third minute but Aaron Preston quickly restored parity for the visitors.
But, it was the home side all the way after that with Liam Wilkin restoring their lead by half-time and then Rob Northen, Wilkin with his second, Danny Frost and Darren Fell ensuring victory after the break.
Barton Town Old Boys also hit their visitors for six in a nine-goal thriller where seven of those came in the last thirty minutes.
It was 1-1 with Lee Mohammed's opener for Barton cancelled out before half-time by Kirby Muxloe's Matthew Melbourne.
Gareth Barlow and Lee Moulds struck twice in a minute just after the hour mark and Ryan Morton made it 4-1 for the hosts.
James Miller brought Kirby back into it on 77 but Moulds and Gary Atkinson added Barton's fifth and sixth before Miller's second concluded the scoring at 6-3.
Three goals in the last eleven minutes saw Hallam progress with a 4-1 victory at Silsden.
They had come from behind with Mark Nisbett scoring on 65 minutes before Lee Naughton put them ahead and Simon Asquith netted twice as the game went into injury time.
Tom Lee's 58th-minute strike was enough for Bridlington Town as they went through with a single-goal victory at home to Shildon.
And, an Ant Lynam double earned Rainworth Miners Welfare a 3-1 win over visitors Heather St Johns.
Staveley Miners Welfare face a replay after they were pegged back by an injury-time equaliser at Clitheroe when they thought they had done enough to go through courtesy of an 83rd minute Lee Gregory header.
Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Nostell Miners Welfare, Long Eaton United, Rossington Main, Selby Town and Shirebrook Town who all bowed out of the competition.
The worst day belonged to Long Eaton whose 2-0 defeat at home to Loughborough Dynamo came despite the fact the visitors played the second half with nine men.
And, Paolo Piliero suffered a broken leg during the game, an incident that saw a third man red carded for the away side.
In the Premier Division, Armthorpe Welfare remain top of the table after a 4-1 win at home to Maltby Main.
A Lee Mellon own goal gave them the lead on nineteen minutes but that was quickly cancelled out by Jonathan Wall.
A Liam Hardy penalty then his second after the interval and a fourth from Ian Farmery kept Welfare's 100% record and stretched their goal difference to sixteen in just three games.
Brodsworth Welfare's poor start to the season continued with a 7-0 loss at Parkgate with Chris Spooner, Ryan Johnson and Jason Short all scoring twice and Craig Mudd getting the final goal in injury time.
Welfare remain bottom, now with a goal difference of -25 from three defeats whilst Parkgate move up to ninth.
Scarborough Athletic got their Premier Division season up-and-running with a 1-0 win at Dinnington Town, Craig Hogg with the winner eighteen minutes from time.
Liversedge are up to fifth with a 5-1 victory over Pickering Town thanks to a whirlwind opening thirty minutes that saw them three-up with a Paul Walker brace and Luke Sherman netting the third.
Andy Park pulled one back for the Pikes on 63 minutes but Joe Hewitt and Brook Newton made sure of a comfortable afternoon for Sedge.
And, Andrew Fox and Chris Coy netted in each half in Thackley's 2-0 home win over Arnold Town.
Tadcaster Albion continue to be the early pacesetters in Division One as they made it four wins out of four with a 2-1 victory at home to Teversal.
Graeme Whitehead struck twice for them in the opening half whilst Liam Wilde got a late consolation for their Nottinghamshire visitors.
Askern Villa move up to second with a 7-1 win at home to Eccleshill United who are now bottom of the pile, replacing on goals scored Glasshoughton Welfare who lost 6-2 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
Welfare were level going into the last thirteen minutes before Gareth Lewins' second of the afternoon, Dean Foley, Andrew Birkett and Ben Phillips made it the home side's day.
Leeds Carnegie are now fifth after their 4-1 win at Yorkshire Amateur that included a brace for Matt Chilton.
And, Kieran Corley and Wayne Crossley helped Brighouse Town to a 2-1 victory at home to Bottesford Town despite Paul Chatterton's late penalty for the visitors.
