NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #5

23rd August, 2009

Armthorpe Welfare head the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division table after thumping hosts Brodsworth Welfare, 10-0.

Bruno Holden and Liam Hardy bagged four goals each whilst Kyle Thompson and Danny Freeman also got on the scoresheet in a match that equalled the top flight's record for the biggest away win.

Brodsworth have now conceded nineteen in their opening two league games and are rooted to the bottom of the table.

Five other Premier Division sides have joined Armthorpe in winning their first two matches of the season.

Selby Town came from behind to win 2-1 at Arnold Town, Brenton Leister and Leigh Wood with the goals after Nigel Jemson had given the Eagles a ninth-minute opener.

A Nathan Hotte brace helped Bridlington to a 4-2 home victory over Thackley with Ben Knapper and Craig Palmer also adding to the tally whilst Nicky Boshell and Chris Coy scored for the visitors.

Maltby Main were 4-1 winners at home to Hall Road Rangers with Richard Tracey opening the scoring for them just before the hour and Lee Mellon doubling their advantage from the penalty spot with thirteen minutes remaining.

Lee Macklin pulled one back for Rangers but Jonathan Wall and Rob Branagan struck late on to ensure the victory.

Barry Rankin and Jimmy Jagger struck in the first half and Francis Johnson found the net late on to earn Nostell Miners Welfare a 3-0 win over visitors Hallam.

And, Dinnington Town won 3-1 at home to Winterton Rangers thanks to goals in the last ten minutes from Gavin Allott and Sam Dixey.

Along with Brodsworth and Thackley, there are four other teams in the Premier Division who have not yet got off the mark.

Shirebrook Town lost 3-0 at home to Pickering Town with the visitors netting through John Newton in the first half and Darren Clough twice in the second period.

Scarborough Athletic lost 3-1 at Lincoln Moorlands Railway in a match which saw their goalkeeper receive a red card.

Liam Bull and Adam Buckley had Railway two-up by the 52nd minute and, although Mark Griffin gave some hope of a comeback, Ben Garrick ensured the win towards the end.

Long Eaton United went down to an 86th-minute goal from Julian Topliss in their 1-0 defeat at Rainworth Miners Welfare.

And, Parkgate are still chasing their first point as a Chris Spooner double was not enough in a 3-2 defeat at Liversedge.

Paul Walker netted twice and Paul Smith was also on the scoresheet for the hosts.

In Division One, Tadcaster Albion lead the table with three wins out of three after a 4-1 win at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Kevin Smith struck twice, once from the penalty spot, in a comfortable victory that keeps them ahead of Appleby Frodingham on goal difference.

App-Frod kept up their 100% record despite being twice behind at Teversal.

The home side scored through Dean Short and Andy Woodcock and the visitors were trailing 2-1 with ten minutes to go when Danny Ricketts, Tom Finnigan and Callum Dransfield made it a 4-3 victory.

Bottesford Town won by the same scoreline but even more dramatically at home to Glasshoughton Welfare.

The visitors had seemingly earned a point when Mark Penney scored on 84 minutes to make it 3-3.

But, Craig Mitchell ran up to the other end and scored to ensure Bottesford moved up to third with two wins out of two whilst Glasshoughton remain bottom with no points from their opening three matches.

Eccleshill United are also looking for their first points after a 6-1 home defeat at the hands of Yorkshire Amateur.

Richard Gaffney's own goal had put the hosts ahead on 20 minutes but Lutel James and Justin Bowler made it a slim advantage for the Ammers going into the break.

Then, John Hobson and Richard Britten put the game beyond doubt within two minutes of the second half before Curtis Bernard and Darryl Kendal finished the scoring in the last quarter-of-an-hour.

Barton Town Old Boys are still pointless after a 4-0 loss at Staveley Miners Welfare - Lee Gregory with a brace for the home side.

Rossington Main won 4-3 at home to Brighouse Town with William McGhie getting the vital fourth goal for the hosts.

Grimsby Borough were 2-0 victors at Leeds Carnegie with second-half goals from Luke Mascall and Richard Creer.

And, Pontefract Collieries and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic gained a point apiece with a 2-2 draw at the JJ Leisure Stadium.
