Ex-Viking Becomes Brewers Boss

28th May, 2008

Tadcaster Albion have announced that former Goole AFC, Harrogate Railway and Bridlington Town boss Paul Marshall is now in charge at Ings Lane.

He has accepted the NCEL Division One side's offer of the post left vacant by the dismissal of Jimmy Reid earlier this month.

And the Brewers will now be preparing for what they hope will be a happier campaign, having finished in the bottom six last season.

Reid Leaves Tadcaster

9th May, 2008

NCEL Division One side Tadcaster Albion have sacked their manager, Jimmy Reid.

A statement from Chairman Kevin Derry said that they had thanked Reid for his efforts but it was felt that he was not the right man for the job at Ings Lane.

Friendly To Boost Tad Coffers

6th February, 2008

York City will hold their first pre-season friendly at Tadcaster Albion to help the club raise funds after recent flood damage.

The game on Friday July 11th will offer City supporters the first chance to catch the 2008/2009 squad in action with all gate receipts going to the home team.

Tadcaster were forced to refurbish their club house after an arson attack before Christmas and, just as the work neared completion, heavy rainfall then saw the Ings Lane venue flooded.

The fire and water damage has also led to lost revenue while the clubhouse has been closed.

But, City's gesture, coupled with a ?500 donation from supporters' group York Minstermen, should help the Northern Counties East League outfit recover from their recent traumas.

Tadcaster chairman Kevin Derry said: "It has been one thing after another and, when the River Wharfe decided to pay us a visit, it was the final straw really.

"The remarkable efforts of our members have just about put it right and we should open up again this weekend.

"Had we got professionals in, it would have cost us a few thousand pounds although it's still been far from easy financially and the clubhouse has been shut at a traditionally busy time of the year.

"It will be a difficult season and the gesture from York City is tremendous.

"It will be a big boost and help us get back on our feet as well as establish ourselves next season.

"York have had trouble themselves in the past so it is good of them to think of us in such times and respond in this way."

First-team boss Jimmy Reid echoed those sentiments and believes the prestigious fixture will aid his recruitment drive over the closed season.

He said: "It will be great to have York City kick off our pre-season campaign and it is a gesture that shows their commitment and willingness to help out in the community."

City managing director Jason McGill added: "Colin Walker has promised to take a full squad to Tadcaster and, as a community football club, we feel it is important to assist other clubs in our area, especially in times of difficulty.

"The idea was presented to us by York Minstermen and we saw a pre-season friendly as the ideal way to help."

Submerged Football Club In Jeopardy

28th January, 2008

The future of Tadcaster Albion could be in jeopardy after flooding caused extensive damage to their clubhouse last week.

Chairman Kevin Derry fears the club may now fold unless extra financial backing to cover the regeneration costs is found in the next few months, reports Wetherby News.

It is the latest set-back for the team after an arson attack caused more than ?10,000 worth of damage to the clubhouse at the end of last year.

Mr Derry strongly believes this latest tragedy could mark the end of Tadcaster's proud 116-year football club history with the latest estimated clean up now in the region of ?10,000.

"It's been one problem after another at the club, first the arson and now this," said Mr Derry this week.

"We're hoping there is interest from the local community and businesses around the town to help us out because if there isn't it will make it very hard to continue.

"We can't put a price on the scale of the damage but we're looking in the region of ?10,000. But it could be more if we have to rip the floorboards out and the carpets and refurbish the whole place again."

Tadcaster's pitch is situated at the back of the John Smith's Brewery on Ings Lane, in close proximity to the River Wharfe.

Heavy rain last week has caused the river to burst its banks submerging the playing surface and later the clubhouse.

"Over the years I have seen some serious flooding here but this year has been worse than the floods in 2000 and 2001," continued Mr Derry.

"Five years ago we were quoted ?16,000 to insure against the flooding and I think that will have risen to around ?20,000 now and that's money we simply can't afford.

"It seems to be getting worse every year and now it's becoming very hard and expensive to get compensation for the club because we're so close to the river and on a flood plain."

Mr Derry has now mooted the prospect of relocating the club away from their current location to prevent a repeat of last week's incident.

He's also asking for help from the Tadcaster community to turn the situation around.

"We've got to seriously look at the possibility of relocation because we can't go on like we are," he said.

"Whether that is moving out of the area I don't know. I hope not because we've been part of the Tadcaster community for years and we would be sad to move.

"Hopefully now the residents of the town come and help us out. We've been part of the community for a long time and there are a loyal number of supporters who come down here each week who will miss it."
