Rangers Groundsman In Top Eight
23rd September, 2007
NCEL Premier Division side Winterton Rangers were invited to the National Groundsman Of The Year awards earlier this month.
The event took place at Windsor Racecourse and included eight groundsmen from Step Five and Six Leagues who were honoured for the great work they have done in keeping their pitches in top condition.
Alf Smith, who tends the ground at Rangers as well as being Treasurer for the club, went with his team of Jeg Sewell and Dave Crowder to the ceremony.
And, although not named in the top three, the club were highly commended for their work on the pitch at West Street.
Chairman Dave Crowder said: "Alf has worked tirelessly over many years, often on his own to create the playing surface we have today.
"The event and the award are just reward for his efforts, and the pitch is a credit to him."
