Sedge Unveil New Manager
14th June, 2007
Liversedge Football Club have announced that Steve Newton will take the reins at the club.
He comes to Clayborn from being Reserve Team Manager at Bradford Park Avenue and will step into the Sedge role immediately.
"I think this is a tremendous appointment for Liversedge FC," says Chairman Mark Brier.
"Steve is well known in our area, he's a winner with experience managing both young and older players, so we believe that he is the right man to bring on the young talent we have at Clayborn, mixed with some experience and quality."
A former Ossett Town U19 and Reserve Team boss, who also managed the Unibond outfit's first team as caretaker, Steve Newton brings a great reputation for developing young players and, more recently, was also in charge of Bradford Park Avenue as Caretaker Manager when they were in the Conference North for several games.
"I'm delighted to accept the position of First Team Manager at Liversedge," says Newton.
"It is my local club; I know most of the players in this area, some who in my mind are good enough for this level.
"I've already spoken to a couple of players who will join me at Clayborn.
"Also, with my involvement in the UniBond league, I've made some good contacts, who I can call on if need be.
"First though, all the present squad will be contacted and given a chance, as well as all the young players that are already with us plus any new ones that join pre-season.
"Everyone will be involved in the pre-season friendlies and I'll welcome both old and new players for the pre-season.
"I'm a great believer in bringing the U19 players through because I believe they have more loyalty to the club."
Much is happening at Clayborn these days, with plans being put together for brand new facilities and a committee that has expanded with the merger of Sedge and Charter Standard Junior club, Gomersal & Cleckheaton FC.
Things are looking good ahead of a new season and new era at Clayborn.
"We are all excited at the potential we have here at Sedge," says Brier.
"Things are starting to take shape and if all the hard work we have done continues, it will be good times ahead.
"Steve is in a great position to take advantage of all this hard work and I'm sure he will move the club forward on the pitch as we are trying to do off the pitch."
The Clayborn outfit has also announced dates for two pre-season friendlies.
They will host NCEL newcomers Leeds Met Carnegie at Clayborn on Tuesday 24th July at 7.45pm and West Riding County Amateur side, Brighouse Town will visit Clayborn on Saturday 4th August at 3pm.
