Pylon Fire Blackouts AFC Emley
14th March, 2008
AFC Emley's home match against Bottesford Town on Wednesday was abandoned when a floodlight pylon caught fire as a result of the week's storms.
Club secretary Richard Poulain told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner: "The wind and rain got into one of the pylons, causing a short circuit which resulted in all the lights going off.
"When we went to look at the problem pylon, we discovered the short had caused a fire inside so we had no option but to abandon the match and call the fire brigade."
An update on the AFC Emley club website says: "The damage, having been looked at in the cold light of day, was far greater than first thought as the whole of the interior of the pylon has been destroyed.
"Abacus Lighting, who erected the pylon, have assessed the damage and a report is being produced.
"However, it is feared that, the work cannot be completed before the end of the current campaign and is likely to be very expensive."
