Staveley Lose Simpson
20th February, 2008
Staveley Miners Welfare's ambitions of claiming a Presidents Cup qualification place have been hit by an injury to Danny Simpson.
He broke his collar bone during Saturday's single-goal victory in the NCEL Division One clash at Barton Town Old Boys and it now means he could be out for up to two months.
A statement on the Inkersall Road side's website says the injury has "left a bitter pill for the club to swallow."
It continues: "Danny had been slowly but surely gaining match fitness and strength and playing exceptionally well.
"His loss for six weeks before the injury knits together looks as if he will now miss the rest of the season.
"The run in of the last seven league games shows Staveley are due to play all of the top five clubs and the injury to Danny is a massive blow to the club's attempts to finish with a top eight placing."
Staveley are currently sixth in Division One.
