Williams Forced To Retire
15th December, 2007
Veteran Dinnington Town midfielder Michael Williams has decided to hang up his boots.
The 38-year-old ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley player has had a recurring knee injury that has been difficult to shake off.
He had also recently moved to Bradford to take up a post as Community Football Coach so his injury and working on Saturdays has made it difficult for him to turn out for the NCEL Division One side recently.
Club Secretary Chris Dearns said: "Michael will be sadly missed.
"I remember his days on the wing at Sheffield Wednesday with great pleasure and we couldn't believe it when he came to sign for us four years ago.
"He played a controlling central midfield role for us and was a major factor in our promotion the the Northern Counties East League two years ago.
"His encouragement to the younger players was invaluable and his dressing room humour will be sorely missed."
