Toyne Urges Backers To Come Forward
29th November, 2007
Dinnington Town manager Steve Toyne is appealing for sponsors to help to improve the club's 'desperate' financial situation.
Despite the team's stirring FA Cup run, when big crowds brought in much-needed revenue, the club's coffers have dwindled due to a lack of sponsorship and low attendances.
Toyne had hoped that the club's high-profile success in the FA Cup would bring new fans through the gates of Phoenix Park.
But, since 13th October when 518 people watched them crash out of the competition, the attendance figures for home games have peaked at a lowly 87.
The Dinnington boss said: "We're looking for sponsors to get involved. We're a well-run, successful club and we need people to get behind the club financially."
The club has a thriving junior section, which caters for children in the local area, but Toyne believes it could all be in jeopardy if the financial situation does not improve.
He said: "The juniors always manage to get sponsorship, but the first team don't, and if there's no first team the club will fold like a pack of cards.
"If it wasn't for the FA Cup run we would have big problems."
On the field, Toyne has steered his side to a position where wins in their games in hand could see them get into the top two of Division One.
