Scarborough Athletic have been hit by a striking blow with the news that Joe Lightowler has been ruled out for the season.

The frontman, who limped out of Boro's game at Rainworth in August, needs a knee operation to rectify an injury, and that will keep him away from the action until next pre-season.

Boss Brian France has pounced to bring in another signing though, with wideman Richard Medcalf joining from Frickley Athletic.

Medcalf, who has also played for Brodsworth this season, is unavailable for Saturday's trip to Northern Counties East League Division One leaders Gedling Town due to suspension.
