Triple Boost For Rangers

22nd June, 2007

Hall Road Rangers have made a real statement of intent ahead of the new season in signing former Hull City goalkeeper Steve Wilson, one of three new players at Dene Park.

The 33-year-old will be joined by former Goole Town midfielder Martin Thacker and Bridlington Town striker Paul Palmer.

Manager Steve Richards had a big influence on him signing for the club as he has outlined the plans of the club.

"They are a club looking to progress and gain promotion from the Northern Counties East First Division," Wilson told hallroadrangers.com.

"I'm looking forward to coming back to Hull so coming to Hall Road is great for me and my family. It means we can spend more time at home and not a lot of time on the road.

"To be fair I wasn't looking to play this year at all but Steve has come in and sold the club to me.

"I've only been here a couple of times before but have played with Hull here and I know it's a family based club."

After leaving the Tigers Wilson headed to Macclesfield Town before moving to Tranmere Rovers with former City boss Brian Little. He also played non-league football last season for Worksop Town and Mossley.

"I enjoyed my time playing professionally but things didn't turn out for me in the professional game. I then went on to play non-league football so I know what to expect.

"Hopefully, my experience will be good for Hall Road in what they are trying to achieve.

"I know pre-season is just round the corner and it will be hard but the expectations at the club are high and see what goes from there."

Martin Thacker makes a return to the club he was at as a 19-year-old and was at Hull City as a YTS when Wilson was there.

The no-nonsense midfielder has seen time with Bradford Park Avenue as well as winning a lot of trophies at Bridlington Town.

At 28, Paul Palmer has an eye for goals and could well be the 20 goals a season man the club are looking for.

He is another former player who enjoyed six years of success at Bridlington Town and will hopefully perform the same for Rangers.
