Steel For Football Club Stand Stolen
18th June, 2008
Bottesford Town has had three tonnes of steel donated by Corus stolen from its grounds.
The KoolSport Northern Counties East League side is the latest victim of metal thefts plaguing the region after having the structural steel sections taken from its Birch Park ground.
The steel, which was to build covered standing and seating areas, had been donated by Corus to help the club get up to scratch and meet League requirements.
Club chairman Tony Reeve told The Scunthorpe Telegraph: "The first thing we noticed was when some small channel sections had been taken. I didn't report that, but we set about moving the remainder of the steel to a secure location.
"We didn't suspect for one minute they would attempt to steal that because of the weight of it, but sure enough we found out they had been back and stripped all the steel from the ground which had been in storage."
He said: "We shall have to get some more. We will now have to call to see whether Corus will allow us to have some more or see if any other companies will be willing to help out."
The covered standing and seating areas are among significant improvements planned, with a ?350,000 project to build new changing rooms in the pipeline.
