Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2019/20 #55

1st March, 2020

Liversedge have moved to within five points of the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division after a 6-2 win at Goole AFC on Saturday propelled them into the top three.

Their match at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds was one of only five matches to take place in the league as a wet and miserable February ended in frustratingly familiar fashion.

Joe Walton took his season's league tally to eighteen with a hat-trick whilst Oliver Fearon scored twice to lift his total to fourteen and substitute Mark Simpson completed his side's goal feast on 80 minutes.

Adam Fowler got both goals for the Vikings who stay seventeenth, his first coming just after the hour mark that made it 5-1 and his second was a further consolation towards the end of the game.

Bridlington Town came from behind twice to draw 2-2 at home to Silsden but they will see it as two points dropped in their chase for a top three finish.

Jake Taylor-Mountford's first half penalty for the visitors was cancelled out by a 65th minute spot kick for the Seasiders that was converted by Joe McFadyen.

Laurence Surhaindo struck on 80 to restore Silsden's lead but Thomas Waudby ensured it was a point apiece with a second equaliser six minutes later.

Bridlington stay fifth, seven points away from the summit and two points behind the promotion places, whilst Silsden move up to tenth.

And, Hemsworth Miners Welfare picked up a much-needed victory in their hopes for a move up to Step 4, ending a seven-match winless streak with a 2-1 home defeat of Barton Town who drop to thirteenth.

The away side took the lead on 56 minutes through Daniel North but their hosts quickly levelled through Jason Davies and then Nash Connolly popped up with the winner in the final ten minutes to lift Hemsworth to sixth, five points behind Liversedge.

In Division One, Retford FC gave their promotion chances a boost as Zach Casburn struck on his debut to claim a 1-0 home victory over ailing Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Retford stay sixth but are now just four points away from the top four whilst the Rail, who suffered their eighth straight defeat, remain ten points adrift of safety in the battle to avoid the drop.

And, in the day's only other game in the division, Dronfield Town were 3-1 winners at Ollerton Town.

Matthew Ord's double either side of the interval secured the win after Ollerton's Sam Foulds had cancelled out an early opener for the visitors from Mark Fereday.

Dronfield stay thirteenth but now have a four point cushion and Ollerton keep themselves in fifteenth.
