The 2019/20 Toolstation NCEL League Cup got underway in spectacular fashion in midweek with eight ties, four each in the First Round and Second Round, producing 43 goals.Swallownest,
Rossington Main,
Campion and
Skegness Town all progressed from the First Round and they will join
Liversedge,
Selby Town,
Bottesford Town and
Eccleshill United who won their Second Round ties to all be in the hat for the next stage.
Rossington were the biggest winners with a 6-2 home victory over
Glasshoughton Welfare, a Jordan Buckham brace leading the way with goals also from James Bytheway, Joshua Gelder, Ben Clarke and Thomas Foltyn-Brown whilst Aaron Kitao and Mark Ferguson netted for the visitors.
Swallownest were 3-0 up at
Retford FC within the opening half-hour as Oliver Grady's early penalty and a double from Thomas Cropper had them on their way before there was a second-half revival from the hosts with Will Tomlinson and Joshua Street scoring in a match that ended 3-2 in favour of the away side.
Campion and Skegness also prevailed on their travels with Mohammad Qasim and Aidan Day securing a 2-1 win for Campion at
Brigg Town with Tom Wilson grabbing a consolation for the Zebras whilst a last gasp penalty from Gary King saw Skegness through 3-2 at
Parkgate.
King had opened the scoring on 36 minutes but their hosts struck twice in quick succession at the start of the second period, Simon Harrison and Lewis Whitaker putting the Steelmen ahead, but Joshua Nichol restored parity on 74 before King's late winner.
The Second Round ties proved to be very tight affairs with three of them requiring penalty shoot-outs, the only match decided in ninety minutes was
Eccleshill United's 3-1 home win over
Thackley.
A Luke Wilson own goal had the home side ahead but scores were level by the break after Ben Grech-Brooksbank's equaliser and then Aran Basi and Jonathan Irving scored in the last quarter-of-an-hour of the second period to send the Eagles through.
Barton Town came from 4-2 down with goals from Thomas Waudby and Reece Moody to force penalties in a 4-4 home draw with
Liversedge, Sedge going through 4-2 on spot-kicks.
Joe Walton was the away side's hero as he scored two goals and then went in goal when their keeper was injured where he played a starring role in the shootout, giving his side a major advantage by saving the first penalty.
Selby Town won 5-3 on penalties at
North Ferriby following their 3-3 draw, Morgan Brough with a double for the hosts whilst Joshua Rogerson's strike on 87 minutes for Selby saw the game end level.
And,
Handsworth left it even later to draw 2-2 at
Bottesford Town with Harry Mitchell scoring in stoppage time but it was their hosts who progressed, 6-5 on penalties.
In the Premier Division,
Penistone Church climb up to third after a 1-0 win at
Goole AFC, Kieran Ryan with the game's only goal on 77 minutes, whilst
Winterton Rangers missed out on a chance to go top of Division One.
Rhys Meynell's penalty and a Kane Reece goal saw them beaten 2-0 at home by
Nostell Miners Welfare who move up to sixth.
And,
Hallam are now tenth after a 3-0 victory at
Hall Road Rangers, Will Wraith, Julian Lawrence and Richard Tootle finding the net for the Countrymen.
