Saturday Match Review

20th January, 2008

There were plenty of goals on Saturday to get rid of the disappointment of a programme decimated once again by the weather with 28 in just six matches played.

The highest scoring game was in the Premier Division at Dennyfield where visitors Nostell Miners Welfare beat Thackley 4-3 to climb into sixth position.

The hosts were 3-2 up by the break thanks to goals from Nicky Matthews, Matthew Mathers and Danny Forrest whilst Dave Nicholas and Paul Bedford had found the net for Welfare.

But, Nostell took command in the second half with an early Oli Johnson strike to level matters before Dave Watts picked up the winner on 66 minutes.

Armthorpe Welfare moved up to eighth with a 5-0 home demolition of Eccleshill United with five different scorers.

Nathan Iley opened matters with a fourth-minute penalty, James Walker gave them a 2-0 half-time lead and Gary Jones added the third on 70 minutes before a Scott Price own goal and an injury time Stephen Rock strike completed the rout.

The other two Premier Division games saw the spoils shared with Brodsworth Welfare moving out of the bottom three after a 2-2 draw at Maltby Main.

But, they were denied all three points as Paul Staniforth grabbed a last-gasp equaliser for the home side after a Sean Gorman brace, with one from the penalty spot, had seemed enough for victory.

And, things were just as dramatic at the Flaxley Road Ground where a final minute goal from Craig Bridge grabbed Lincoln Moorlands Railway a point at Selby Town in a 3-3 draw.

Dinnington Town moved top of Division One with a 2-0 win at home to Hall Road Rangers, Ant Lynam and Simon Mirfin with the goals.

And, Rainworth Miners Welfare's renaissance continued as goals from Robbie Clarke, Craig Wilson, Danny Naylor and Andy Jones saw them claim a comfortable 4-0 win at ten-man AFC Emley to move up into sixth.
