Weekend Match Review
14th January, 2008
Despite drawing at home, Winterton Rangers moved one point further clear at the top of the Premier Division after Saturday's action.
They had to come from behind twice to claim a 2-2 scoreline against fifth-placed Selby Town.
Christian Fox had put the Robins ahead on 24 minutes before Rob Northen levelled on the half-hour mark.
Then, as the game went into the last twenty minutes, Bruno Holden regained the lead for the away side only for Philip Jackson to restore parity soon after.
Glapwell took advantage of a postponement for second-placed Liversedge at Hallam to become Winterton's closest rivals with a 3-0 home win over their local rivals, South Normanton Athletic.
Matt Varley opened the scoring after a quarter-of-an-hour before he was sent off towards the end of the opening period.
Despite being a man light, the Hall Corner outfit secured the victory with goals from David Rimington and Ashley Grayson in the last five minutes to move within three points of the top of the table.
Fourth-placed Pickering Town remained an outside bet in the title challenge after four goals from Mark Swales, with one from the penalty spot, secured a 4-1 win at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
That was after Railway had gone ahead in the eighth minute through Craig Bridge.
Glasshoughton Welfare's miserable season continued as a 5-1 home defeat by Mickleover Sports saw them cut further adrift at the foot of the table.
An early Craig Rouse own goal put Welfare on the back foot although they equalised through Shaun O'Connor on 33 minutes.
Sports regained the lead soon after with a David Holmes strike before another own goal, this time from Peter Naylor towards the start of the second period, and two in a minute from Dave Middleditch and Adam Slater in the final quarter made sure of the victory.
The gap grew between Welfare and the rest to seven points after Brodsworth Welfare's 2-1 win at home to Shirebrook Town, a victory that saw Brodsworth move up to eighteenth.
Elsewhere, Long Eaton United's renaissance continued with a 3-2 home victory over Thackley to move them up into seventh.
They were 3-0 up by half-time thanks to an Alex Steadman brace and one from Channon North before a James Carder own goal and a Joel Etienne strike brought the visitors back into the match in the second period.
And, Steve Ward grabbed two in Parkgate's 3-0 defeat of visitors Armthorpe Welfare with Matt Outram also getting on the scoresheet.
Nostell Miners Welfare's game at home to Maltby Main and Eccleshill United's trip to Arnold Town were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
Victories for Bottesford Town and Dinnington Town saw them consolidate their top two positions in Division One.
Bottesford remained at the summit as Simon Roach and Danny House propelled them to a 2-0 win at home to Barton Town Old Boys.
And, Dinnington stayed second by claiming the same scoreline at next-to-bottom Pontefract Collieries with Michael Blythen and Jon Somerset both finding the net in the second period.
Third-placed Gedling Town were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Teversal who climbed to fourth thanks to the point they earned at the Riverside Ground.
The visitors took the lead on the hour through Dean Short but Jason Bedward grabbed the equaliser with fourteen minutes remaining.
The Tevie Boys went ahead of Hall Road Rangers in the table after the Dene Park side were comprehensively beaten 4-0 at AFC Emley.
Allan Laud had the hosts in front on thirty minutes before Steven Kenworthy doubled the advantage after the interval and a Lee Hill brace confirmed the victory for Emley who stayed twelfth.
Rossington Main remained at the bottom of Division One despite taking the lead at home to Tadcaster Albion.
Lee Holmes had put them ahead on 23 minutes but, for the tenth time this season, they could not hold on to a lead and claim all three points.
A Danny Gray brace after the break condemned them to their thirteenth defeat of the season.
Rainworth Miners Welfare were 2-0 home winners over Borrowash Victoria with second half goals from Jason Nicholson and Barry Alberry keeping them in ninth position.
And, the biggest crowd of the day saw Scarborough Athletic run out 3-0 victors at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
In front of 211, Ryan Blott and Scott Phillips had the Seadogs firmly ahead by half-time before Craig Hogg grabbed the vital third with eleven minutes remaining.
Scarborough moved up to tenth in the table with the win after a six point deduction in midweek had seen them drop to eleventh.
