Boxing Day Match Review

27th December, 2007

Winterton Rangers and Liversedge are now five points clear at the top of the table after a full Boxing Day schedule in the Premier Division.

Rangers kept a superior goal difference with two games in hand on their closest rival following a 2-0 win at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Adam Deaking opened the scoring on seventeen minutes before a Danny Clarke penalty five minutes from time sealed the victory.

Liversedge, meanwhile, picked up a comprehensive 4-0 victory at bottom side Glasshoughton Welfare.

Third-placed Glapwell lost some ground on those sides as they were beaten 1-0 at Shirebrook Town in front of the day's biggest crowd.

205 saw Marc Sherlock score in the 37th minute against his former club to make it four wins out of five for the Langwith Road side as their season continues to improve.

Pickering Town remained fourth despite a heavy home defeat to the side just below them, Selby Town.

Adam Russell, Christian Fox and Bruno Holden put the visitors in command before Liam Salt broke the Pikes' duck on 75 minutes.

But, it was Selby who grabbed the final goal with Brenton Leister making it 4-1 to close the gap between the Robins and their hosts to three points.

Armthorpe Welfare climbed up to sixth after coming from three goals down at Brodsworth Welfare to claim a 3-3 draw.

Two from Paul Bracey and a Craig Morley own goal gave the hosts a seemingly unassailable lead after just 34 minutes.

But, Paul Ashton pulled one back before the break, James Walker grabbed a second soon after the interval and Morley made up for his earlier misfortune by grabbing the equaliser.

Welfare went above Eccleshill United who, thanks to a Nicky Matthews hat-trick, were beaten 3-2 at Thackley with Andy Howland and Jarrod Peltier scoring for the Eagles.

Hallam came from behind to beat Nostell Miners Welfare 4-2 at Sandygate to climb to eighth in the table.

Francis Johnson and Oli Johnson had put the visitors in the lead after an early goal from Andrew Wood for the hosts.

But, the second half belonged to Hallam with Billy Rowley, Gavin Hunter and Scott Bates all finding the net.

The biggest scoreline of the day came at Muglet Lane where visitors Parkgate ran riot with a 5-0 win over hosts Maltby Main.

Ryan Johnson picked up a hat-trick whilst Gavin Allott scored two in a victory that saw the two sides exchange places with Parkgate now in thirteenth just ahead of Maltby.

Mickleover Sports and Arnold Town played out a goalless draw at Station Road whilst honours were also even between Long Eaton United and South Normanton Athletic.

Both goals came in the final ten minutes with Lee Sutton opening the scoring for the visitors before James Carder grabbed a point for Long Eaton with three minutes remaining.
