Midweek Match Review
30th November, 2007
In a midweek dominated by County Cup matches, there were two league games ? one of which saw defeat for Division One leaders Gedling Town.
They were beaten by a triple first-half salvo at Dinnington Town with an Ant Lynam brace and Michael Blythen strike giving the home side an unassailable lead by the interval.
Phil Massingham grabbed a consolation as the 3-1 scoreline saw Dinnington move up to seventh place with games in hand on all the sides above them.
Meanwhile, in the Premier Division, Hallam moved up to tenth as James Tevendale, Scott Bates and Richard Carrington found the net in a 3-1 win at home to South Normanton Athletic.
Martin Bowles got on the scoresheet for the Shiners who have now dropped into the bottom three having failed to win in their last ten league games.
Two NCEL sides overcame tricky ties against lower league opposition to get through to the Third Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
Borrowash Victoria were 2-1 victors over Central Midlands outfit Blackwell Miners Welfare at the Robinson Construction Bowl.
David Leigh had put the Vics ahead before Danny Payandeh levelled matters just before the break.
Karl Payne got the winner, though, in the 50th minute.
And, two goals from Michael Allsop plus one each from Adam Holmes and Mark Strzyzewski saw Long Eaton United comfortably progress with a 4-0 win over Staffordshire County Senior League outfit Ashbourne United.
There was a thrilling all-NCEL encounter in the Quarter-Finals of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy as Winterton Rangers won 4-2 in extra-time at Barton Town Old Boys.
Danny Clarke's 57th-minute opener for Rangers was cancelled out by Craig Burdick forcing the extra thirty minutes.
David Ricardo restored Winterton's advantage before Burdick once again got the hosts back in it.
But, two goals from Lee Mohammed in the second period of extra-time secured the victory.
Leeds Met Carnegie also played extra-time in their West Riding County Cup Second Round tie at Unibond outfit Ossett Albion.
However, a valiant effort from them was sadly unrewarded as they bowed out 3-2 with their goals scored by Kev Ryan and James Elliott.
The other two West Riding matches were all-NCEL affairs with the home sides both progressing.
An Andy Howland brace and one from Jamie Bairstow saw Eccleshill United go through 3-1 at the expense of Pontefract Collieries.
And, first half strikes from Matthew Mathers and Luke Caulfield gave Thackley a 2-0 win over Liversedge.
