Midweek Match Review
22nd November, 2007
Pickering Town will go to fellow NCEL side Winterton Rangers in the Third Round of the FA Vase after a last-minute winner in a midweek replay.
Ricky Greening sealed his hat-trick in stoppage time to claim a 3-2 victory at home to another NCEL outfit, Eccleshill United.
Greening had put the Pikes ahead on 12 minutes through a penalty before another spot-kick, this time for Eccleshill's Chris Rosindale, and a Paul Baker strike had the visitors ahead by the interval.
But, Greening's two further goals in the last quarter of the game made it a dramatic finale and joy for the home side.
Liversedge moved to the top of the Premier Division, meanwhile, with a 4-1 victory at home to Parkgate.
The away side opened the scoring on 28 minutes through Steve Ward before Sedge took complete control with Damien Melvin levelling before Chris Woods, Nicky Boshell and Luke Sherman claimed the three points in the second half.
And, Winterton Rangers climbed to third with a 3-0 victory over their visitors and former league leaders, Nostell Miners Welfare.
All the goals came in the opening quarter-of-an-hour as Danny Clarke, Steve Underwood and Lee Mohammed gave Nostell a nightmare start from which they never recovered.
Hallam are tenth after their 3-1 win at Armthorpe Welfare thanks to first-half goals from Phil Reynolds, Andrew Wood and Richard Carrington.
Paul Ashton got a consolation from Welfare in the 68th minute.
In the only game in Division One, Dinnington Town run out comfortable 5-2 winners at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare.
Goals from Simon Mirfin, Ant Lynam, Michael Blythen and new signing Grant Allott had them four-up by the break before Allott got his second and Dinnington's fifth on 63 minutes.
With two games postponed in the Second Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup, Glapwell were the only NCEL side to progress in the competition in midweek.
But, it took a Matt Varley penalty in the 89th minute to seal the 3-2 victory at home to Mickleover Sports as the game looked set to go into extra-time.
Earlier, Justin Burdett had scored a brace to put Glapwell ahead twice before they were pegged back on each occasion by Rob Spencer.
Staveley Miners Welfare will look at an unbelievable last five minutes of normal time as they bowed out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup with a 3-2 extra-time defeat at North West Counties side, Glossop North End.
Two goals from Jonathan Wall on either side of the interval had seemingly put Staveley through but Jay Gorton then struck twice, firstly on 85 minutes and then in stoppage time, to force a further half-hour.
Rick Bailey completed the remarkable turnaround in the fifth minute of extra-time.
Things were even more dramatic at Lees Lane where South Normanton Athletic bowed out of the competition at home to Central Midlands outfit Graham St Prims.
Nathan Scott had put the Shiners ahead on 27 minutes before Danwell Francis levelled matters for the visitors after the break.
There was no further score in normal and then extra-time, leading to a penalty shoot-out that Graham St Prims won 7-6.
And, in the BUSA Premier League North, Leeds Met Carnegie were 4-1 winners at University of Lincoln thanks to two goals from Gareth Johnson and one each for Duncan Williams and Paul Harrison.
