Midweek Match Review
19th October, 2007
Liversedge moved up to third in the Premier Division after a 6-1 midweek mauling of hosts Arnold Town.
It had started so differently with the home side taking the lead on 24 minutes as Chris Freestone grabbed his thirteenth goal of the season.
But, after that it was Sedge all the way as Matthew Sparks and Nicky Boshell gave them a 2-1 advantage by the interval.
And then, Damien Melvin and Gary Tyson put the game beyond doubt before a late double from Wayne Crossley made it Liversedge's biggest win of the season whilst Arnold remain sixth in the table.
Leaders Nostell Miners Welfare suffered their first league defeat as they were beaten by a single goal at Selby Town.
Brenton Leister's 56th-minute strike earned the Robins all three points to move them up to eighth.
And, despite a second-half rally from the home side, Brodsworth Welfare came away with a 3-2 win at Glasshoughton Welfare as two of the bottom three in the table clashed.
Shaun Gorman, Ryan Malee and then an own goal from Chris Coombs had the visitors three-up by the break.
Jermaine Manners and Brighton Magadza brought Welfare back into the game but they couldn't get the vital third.
There was one game in Division One and it was a tasty encounter as two of the top three sides came together.
Gedling Town took the victory in a seven-goal thriller at Barton Town Old Boys to move them back to the summit of the table.
Tom Lee and Gary Dickinson had Barton two goals ahead in the opening seventeen minutes before Gedling struck back to level through Will Heath and Damien Magee before half-time.
Gareth Barlow put the hosts back in front before Carl Westcarr found the net to equalise once more and a penalty from Alan Jefferies with eight minutes remaining gave Gedling a 4-3 win.
We now know three of the semi-finalists in the Wilkinson Sword Trophy ? Bottesford Town, Teversal and Hall Road Rangers.
All won away from home in the Quarter-Finals to book their place.
Paul Palmer, Jamie Barnwell and Karl Henry gave Rangers a 3-0 win at Rainworth Miners Welfare whilst an Andy Woodcock brace claimed a 2-0 victory for Teversal at Pontefract Collieries.
Bottesford were also 2-0 winners at Dinnington Town.
And, Shirebrook Town's Derbyshire Senior Cup challenge fell at the First Round stage as, despite a Jamie Smith strike, they bowed out 2-1 at home to Stapenhill.
