Goals were the order of the day in the Second Round of Qualifying in the FA Vase on Saturday.

There were 121 in just 28 ties involving NCEL sides but the most dramatic came at Church Street where Armthorpe Welfare took part in a 5-5 draw against Northern League visitors Chester-Le-Street Town.

The away side were 3-2 up with four minutes remaining before Welfare equalised through David Buck and then, unbelievably, took the lead with a Nathan Iley penalty as the game went into added-on time.

However, it was then Armthorpe's turn to be stunned as, in the fifth minute of injury time, Andrew Cuthbertson grabbed Chester-Le-Street's fourth to force another half-hour.

James Walker regained the lead for Welfare before Michael Cook levelled matters once again, resulting in a replay on Tuesday evening.

It's one of four replays this midweek as Long Eaton United, South Normanton Athletic and Lincoln Moorlands Railway all try to get into the First Round Proper.

Long Eaton will feel that they should already be there having taken a 3-0 lead by half-time at Nuneaton Griff through an Alex Steadman hat-trick but the hosts managed to get back on level terms in the second period.

There were four goals in Athletic's match with Dunkirk, all in extra-time as it finished goalless after 90 minutes.

It was the Central Midlands visitors who built a two-goal advantage before South Normanton stormed back with goals from Robert Crabtree and Paul Gamble to keep their FA Vase hopes alive.

And, Lincoln Moorlands Railway welcome Ely City to Newark Road on Tuesday night after a 3-3 draw.

Fifteen NCEL sides made it through, meanwhile, on the first time of asking.

Pickering Town notched up the biggest victory as a Ricky Greening brace plus one each from Richard Whitfield, Lee Pallender and Steve Baxter claimed a 5-0 win at Brandon United.

Selby Town won 4-0 at Willington through goals by Brenton Leister, Christian Fox and Bruno Holden as well as an Andy Hart penalty.

And, two goals from Nicky Matthews helped Thackley to a convincing 4-1 scoreline at Easington Colliery.

Other winners on their travels were Winterton Rangers, Mickleover Sports, Rainworth Miners Welfare and Hallam.

Rangers picked up a fine 4-2 victory at Northern League outfit Bishop Auckland, thanks to three goals in the first nineteen minutes, with two from Andy Holt after Rob Northen had levelled following an early opener by the home side.

Sports came from behind with strikes from Adam Cousins and David Holmes to beat Ludlow Town 2-1.

Danny Naylor and Adam Lillie gave Rainworth a comfortable 2-0 victory at Central Midlands outfit Radcliffe Olympic.

And, a Scott Bates strike halfway through the first period claimed a single-goal win for Hallam at Winsford United of the North West Counties League.

In the only all-NCEL tie, Pontefract Collieries edged a five-goal thriller at home to Tadcaster Albion with Tom Grindel grabbing their vital third with eighteen minutes remaining.

Seven NCEL sides used a home tie to their full advantage although all were very close affairs with Glapwell and Eccleshill United being the only sides to notch up more than a single-goal victory.

Aaron Brady and Craig Mitchell gave Glapwell a 2-0 win over Boldmere St Michaels whilst Eccleshill progressed with a 3-1 scoreline against Horden CW thanks to goals from Andy Philp, Paul Baker and Chris Rosindale.

AFC Emley and Gedling Town claimed 4-3 victories over North West Counties' Ramsbottom United and the Midland Combination's Castle Vale, respectively.

Emley's goals included a brace from Gavin Birmingham whilst Matt Milns' strike in extra-time sealed the tie for Gedling after they had twice been two goals behind.

Steve Banks' injury-time strike saw Borrowash Victoria through at the expense of visitors Highgate United although the Midland Combination side then added their second in the 3-2 scoreline with a penalty.

Maltby Main needed extra-time to seal their 2-1 victory at home to Maine Road, Mike Taylor grabbing his second of the afternoon in the 102nd minute.

And, Caine Cheetham's strike eight minutes from the end of normal time saw Parkgate progress by the same scoreline against Atherton Collieries.

There was extra-time disappointment for Bottesford Town and Hall Road Rangers, as Bottesford went down 2-1 at home to Tow Law Town and Rangers were beaten 4-2 at Marske United.

Teversal lost to a single goal at Calverton Miners Welfare whilst Dinnington Town were beaten 2-1 at Formby and Nostell Miners Welfare were defeated by the same scoreline at Trafford.

Brodsworth Welfare were on the wrong-end of a 4-3 thriller at Kirkham & Wesham whilst Staveley Miners Welfare lost 1-0 at home to Studley and Barton Town Old Boys were beaten 3-0 at Washington.

And, the biggest loss came for Liversedge, Noel Whitaker's last minute goal being the only thing to cheer for them in a 5-1 defeat at Spennymoor Town.

Due to the FA Vase, there were only three League matches on Saturday, one in the Premier Division and two in Division One.

Arnold Town have moved up to seventh in the top flight after Chris Freestone's 88th-minute strike claimed them all three points at home to Shirebrook Town.

In Division One, Scarborough Athletic climbed to third with a comfortable 4-0 win over visitors Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

Mark Griffin opened the scoring on 39 minutes and their lead was doubled straightaway with a Scott Phillips penalty.

Phillips added his second and Athletic's third on 48 before a Matt Higginbottom own goal six minutes from time wrapped things up.

And, Leeds Met Carnegie are now seventh after a 3-1 victory at Yorkshire Amateur, a Jay Elliot brace and a third from John Forrest claiming the win after the Ammas had taken the lead through Simon Kirsima in the first twenty seconds of the encounter.
