Saturday Match Review
2nd September, 2007
Seven NCEL clubs are through to the First Qualifying Round for the FA Cup with eight still hopeful of progressing in midweek replays.
Three of the four all-NCEL encounters need a second fixture to decide a winner - the first was on Friday evening where Hallam and AFC Emley shared four goals, three of which came in the last ten minutes.
The replay, like the original encounter, will be played at AFC Emley's ground.
Mickleover Sports were held to a goalless draw at home to Long Eaton United whilst Teversal and Rainworth Miners Welfare also could not break the deadlock at Carnarvon Street.
A goal nine minutes from time from Nicky Kennerdale saw Gedling Town pick up a 1-1 draw at Meir KA and South Normanton Athletic were held by the same scoreline at home to Bedworth United.
The biggest winners were Selby Town were comfortably beat fellow Premier Division side Pickering Town 4-0.
Elsewhere, there were not many goals to get excited about as Glapwell and Hall Road Rangers picked up single goal victories at home to Stone Dominoes and Crook Town respectively.
Andy Catton's strike was the only goal for Winterton Rangers as they progressed at home to Morpeth Town whilst two penalties from Ant Lynam gave Dinnington Town a fine 2-0 win at Rossendale United and Liversedge also went through by the same score at home to Dunston Federation.
Scott Bates and Caine Cheetham helped Parkgate to a 2-1 home victory over Alsager Town.
But, there was one down point to the day as Staveley Miners Welfare bowed out to a single goal at Brierley Hill & Withymoor.
The lack of goals were more than made up, though, in the Premier Division where there were 19 in five matches.
Nostell Miners Welfare moved up to second in the table with a 4-3 home win over Arnold Town as they came from behind in the final five minutes to snatch the victory.
Nathan Iley scored a hat-trick but, unfortunately, one was an own goal as his Armthorpe Welfare side easily beat visitors Glasshoughton Welfare 5-1.
Armthorpe are now fifth after that victory, just behind Eccleshill United whose goals from Andy Philip, Chris Rossendale and 17-year-old debutant Liam Serrant saw them win 3-1 at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Shirebrook Town were held to a goalless draw by Maltby Main whilst it was 1-1 at Dennyfield between Thackley and Brodsworth Welfare.
In Division One, Barton Town Old Boys are the new leaders after a 2-0 home victory over Bottesford Town.
A Danny Gray brace helped Tadcaster Albion up to fifth following their 4-1 win against visitors Rossington Main and Tesfa Walton also grabbed two to get Yorkshire Amateur's first win of the season, 3-1 at Pontefract Collieries.
