NCEL Midweek Review
30th August, 2007
Two goals in the opening quarter of their match at South Normanton maintained Glapwell's 100% record on Bank Holiday Monday.
Ian Brown and Aaron Brady struck against the Hall Corner side's local rivals to keep them top of the Premier Division table.
The closest teams behind them are two promoted sides, Winterton Rangers and Nostell Miners Welfare.
Both are unbeaten after their first four games in the top flight with Rangers in second place after they won by a single goal twelve minutes from time by Lee Mohammed at Selby Town.
And, a Darren Rushton hat-trick that included two penalties saw Nostell win 4-1 at Maltby Main.
Ben Gilbert also got on the score sheet whilst Ashley Longstaff struck from the spot for Main.
Mickleover Sports were also 4-1 winners, this time at home to Glasshoughton Welfare.
A goal by Jamie Barrett and a Chris Archer brace had them three-up by 40 minutes before Adam Sadler pulled one back for the visitors on the stroke of half-time.
However, a David Holmes strike on 69 minutes halted any chance of a comeback and Sports move up to sixth after their victory.
Thackley climbed off the bottom of the table in convincing style with a 5-1 win over Long Eaton United at Dennyfield.
There were two each for Nick Doherty and Ben O?Melia whilst Phil Holmes also added to the home side's tally and Mark Strzyzewski grabbed the only ray of sunshine for Long Eaton.
They are replaced at the foot of the Premier Division by Pickering Town who were beaten 3-0 at Lincoln Moorlands Railway and are now the only top flight club not to have won a game.
Arnold Town picked up their first victory with a 3-2 win at Eccleshill United, although they left it very late to grab the three points.
Twice they'd been ahead through Nick Hall and Chris Freestone but had been pegged back by a Chris Rosindale penalty and then a Stuart Waite goal.
But, in the battle of the Eagles, Freestone swooped in injury time to grab his second and the winner for the away side.
Liam Muirhead struck twice to give Armthorpe Welfare a 2-1 win at home to Parkgate with Caine Cheetham scoring in between for the visitors.
Will Tomlinson's 68th-minute goal claimed the points for Hallam in a single goal victory at Liversedge.
And, Brodsworth Welfare moved up to tenth with their second successive win, 2-1 at Shirebrook Town.
Craig Watts and Shaun Gorman scored for Welfare before Lee Widdowson gave Shirebrook hope with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining but the visitors held on.
Tuesday night saw the remaining three Wilkinson Sword Trophy Second Round matches take place.
Alan Jefferies struck six times as Gedling Town pummelled Rossington Main 10-0, with a Phil Massingham brace and one each for Tim Wilks and Matt Milns compounding the away side's misery.
Tom Grindel's goal thirteen minutes from time saw Pontefract Collieries progress at the expense of Staveley Miners Welfare at Skinner Lane.
And, extra time was needed at Carnarvon Street to separate Teversal and Tadcaster Albion.
Rob Ellis put Albion ahead on 16 minutes before Gary Atkins levelled matters on the half-hour mark.
Danny Gray restored Taddy's lead after the interval but Micky Clarke forced a further thirty minutes before he grabbed his second in the opening minutes of extra-time to settle the tie, 3-2 in Teversal's favour.
