Lovell steps down at Penistone

17th September, 2021

Penistone Church have announced that, due to family commitments, Brett Lovell has stepped down as manager of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side a week after he assumed the role.

He had taken over following the departure of long-term boss Ian Richards to Pitching In Northern Premier League neighbours Stocksbridge Park Steels.

A statement released on Penistone's social media feed on Thursday said: "Unfortunately, due to family commitments, Brett Lovell has had to sadly make a U-turn and step down as first team manager of Penistone Church FC.

"Stephen Lenthall will make the step up from assistant manager to first team manager and will be supported by Ryan Johnson.

"We feel that ‘Lenny’ has deserved this chance on merit, he knows the club inside out and had many very successful years with our reserves.

"We thank Brett for everything he’s done for us over the years.

"He is a top man who is welcome back anytime he’s able to come down.

"We will be putting a more in depth statement on our web-site over the weekend."

Penistone's next match sees them at home to Thackley in the league on Saturday (18th) as they look to move out of the bottom four in the Premier Division, kick-off 3pm.
