Two goals from Lewis Collins helped Grimsby Borough to a 3-0 win at home to Barton Town in midweek to extend their lead at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division to twelve points.He converted a tenth minute penalty and added the third towards the end of the game, sandwiching a Kieran Wressell strike, for Daniel Barrett's side.
Second-placed Eccleshill United did not have a fixture but they have three matches in hand of the leaders so the title race is far from over although the trophy's destiny remains in Borough's hands.
Garforth Town and
Penistone Church both won to move closer to the top two in the chase for promotion.
James Burgess struck twice for Garforth in the dying minutes of their home match with
Handsworth to snatch a 2-1 victory, the winner coming courtesy of a spectacular overhead kick in stoppage time, after Rikki Paylor had given the visitors a first half lead.
The Miners are two points behind Eccleshill, Church are a further point back after they also won 2-1 on their own patch, Brett Lovell with their 71st minute winner after
Hemsworth Miners Welfare's Harry Viggars had cancelled out their opener from James Young's penalty.
Fifth-placed
Sherwood Colliery could only pick up a point in a 2-2 draw at home to neighbours
AFC Mansfield, leading twice through Lewis Weaver and Lewis Belgrave only for Ross Duggan and Lynton Karkach to restore parity.
Winterton Rangers strengthened their hold on sixth spot as a Josh Walker brace secured them a 2-0 home derby win over
Bottesford Town, stretching their lead over Handsworth and Barton Town who complete the top eight.
Basement side
Athersley Recreation were beaten 4-1 by visitors
Thackley, Lewis Waddington getting all of the Dennyboys' goals, whilst
Albion Sports' goalless draw at home with
Maltby Main means they move to two points clear of the danger zone that is occupied by the Rec and Hemsworth.
There was also a 0-0 draw between
Knaresborough Town and
Silsden AFC who stay seventeenth and twelfth, respectively.
The Division One title chase is slowly turning into a two-horse race with
Hallam and
North Ferriby both winning whilst third-placed
Brigg Town fell to a home defeat.
Hallam keep their three point advantage at the summit after Brandon Bradbury and Liam Royles netted in a 2-1 home win over
Ollerton Town whilst Louis Kirk's 84th minute strike secured ten-man
North Ferriby a 1-0 victory against visitors
Selby Town.
Brigg were beaten 3-2 by
FC Humber United, a priceless win for the away side who move to just four points from safety in the bottom three.
An own goal grabbed them the points in the 89th minute, seconds after Jack Richardson had seemingly snatched a draw for the hosting Zebras who are now ten points off the top.
Harrogate Railway Athletic and
Rossington Main took advantage of sixth-placed Selby's defeat to further tighten their grip on a play-off place.
Jacob Robertson's 60th minute equaliser secured the Rail a point in a 1-1 draw at
Rainworth Miners Welfare who move five clear of the bottom three.
Meanwhile, Tyla Bell and Danny Deakin got on the scoresheet for Rossington as they beat seventh-placed
Retford FC at Oxford Street to forge a seven point gap between themselves and their opponents.
There were home defeats for relegation-threatened
Teversal and
Clipstone, Samuel Bebbington and Matthew Ord scoring for
Dronfield Town in their 2-1 win at the Tevie Boys whilst goals from Thomas Cadzow and Elliot Wilson condemned the Cobras to a 2-0 loss at the hands of
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Swallownest remain a point above the bottom three after Daniel Ramsey's late strike saw them go down 1-0 at home to
Shirebrook Town.
And, there was a 2-2 draw between
Armthorpe Welfare and visitors
Glasshoughton Welfare whilst
Parkgate picked up a 2-0 victory on their travels at
Nostell Miners Welfare.
