Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2021/22 #33

25th November, 2021

There were draws in all three Toolstation NCEL Premier Division matches, 5-0 away victories in both Division One games, and plenty of County Cup action involving our sides in midweek.

Eccleshill United missed out on a chance of going second in the Premier Division as they were held 1-1 at home by bottom side Athersley Recreation.

Aiden Day had put the hosting Eagles ahead just before the hour mark but the Penguins made sure it was honours even thanks to a 73rd minute leveller from Mossimo Ciccarelli.

Fourth-placed Sherwood Colliery also drew 1-1 with a Harry Middleton own goal in the final quarter-of-an-hour rescuing them a point after Jamie Goddard had put the visiting Barton Town ahead just prior to the interval.

And, Maltby Main went in at half-time two goals ahead at Winterton Rangers courtesy of a Connor Cutts opener and an injury-time penalty from Johnathan Williams.

But, the home side rallied in the second period with Daniel Walker and Paul Grimes restoring parity and Rangers climb to sixth following the 2-2 draw whilst Main stay tenth.

North Ferriby return to the top of Division One after a 5-0 win at basement side Teversal, having opened the scoring after just seventeen seconds through Joel Shortland.

Josh Whiteley and Joshua Dennett made it a three-goal advantage by the break and the Villagers completed the scoring in the second half with a second for Whiteley and Daniel East also getting on the scoresheet.

Selby Town were also quick off the mark at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic as Liam Flanagan netted in the opening minute before completing the tally with a last-gasp penalty in a 5-0 victory.

In between came goals from Daniel Davison, Harry Clapham and Luke Balderson and the Robins move up to fifth in the table.

Elsewhere, it was County Cup action, and Handsworth produced a fine first half to lead 2-0 at Pitching In Northern Premier League side Worksop Town in the Quarter-Finals of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup.

A Mitchell Dunne brace had the visiting supporters hoping for an upset but the former NCEL hosts turned the game around in the second period to run out 4-2 winners.

Parkgate, however, did cause an upset in the same competition, as the Division One side beat Premier Division visitors Emley AFC 2-1 with goals from Alex Rippon and Frederick Tracey sandwiching a Max Tweddle strike for the Pewits.

There were two Notts Senior Cup Second Round ties with Ollerton Town winning 3-0 at Division One rivals Clipstone, Oliver Grady, Josef Turner and Gavin King with the goals in the first half.

And, Rainworth Miners Welfare were beaten 1-0 at home by Mansfield Town, the Stags grabbing the win in a tight match midway through the opening period.
