Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2021/22 #23

21st October, 2021

There were home wins for Handsworth and Winterton Rangers in the midweek Toolstation NCEL Premier Division action whilst FC Humber United upset the form book in a nine-goal thriller in Division One.

A double from Mitchell Dunne helped Handsworth to a 2-1 victory over Penistone Church, his first a 44th minute penalty added to with a strike midway through the second period.

Nathan Keightley got a late consolation for the visitors who stay fifteenth whilst the Ambers climb to fifth in the table.

Rangers, meanwhile, defeated Hemsworth Miners Welfare 2-0 with Josh Walker's early opener added to in the 66th minute by Jack Varley to move them up to eleventh with their opponents remaining next-to-bottom.

Division One leaders Brigg Town, with a run of nine successive league victories, travelled to Humber who found themselves in the bottom two having not won in fourteen matches.

And, it turned into a remarkable encounter with Edward Wileman putting the hosts ahead on three minutes only for Stephen McCarron to quickly equalise.

In the last ten minutes of the opening period, Humber took the lead twice more through Wileman's second and a first from Szymon Czubik, only to be pegged back on each occasion by Andrew Taylor and Scott Phillips to make it 3-3 at the interval.

The home side then went 5-3 up within ten minutes of the restart, Wileman completing his hat-trick and Czubik bagging his second, and they held on to that advantage to pick up three massive points although Scott Phillips halved the deficit in stoppage time.

The 5-4 victory lifts Humber up to seventeenth in the table and Brigg remain top on goal difference ahead of North Ferriby.

Elsewhere, there was an all-NCEL tie in the First Round of the West Riding County Cup as goals in the last ten minutes from Ben Grech-Brooksbank and Owen Murphy secured Thackley a 2-0 win at Goole AFC.

And, there were two goals each for Liam Pritchard and Fabian Johnson as Shirebrook Town beat visitors Sheffield City in a friendly whilst Hallam went down 2-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday U23s.
