Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2021/22 #21

14th October, 2021

James Burgess was the star of the midweek matches as the Garforth Town frontman struck five times in the Miners' West Riding County Cup victory in midweek.

They defeated visitors Glasshoughton Welfare 8-1 in one of three all-Toolstation NCEL county cup ties played on Tuesday night in a First Round encounter that was level at 1-1 at the interval.

Burgess' opener had been cancelled out by an Adam Hayton penalty and no-one expected the game to turn as much as it did in the hosts' favour in the second period with Hass Gorji also nabbing a couple and Kevin Terhaerdt getting on the scoresheet too.

Elsewhere, Maltby Main won 3-0 at Athersley Recreation in the Second Round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup, Reagan Waud, Johnathan Williams from the penalty spot, and Chandler Gibson with the goals for the Miners.

And, Ollerton Town progressed with a single goal victory at Retford FC, Gavin King with a 72nd minute penalty to stretch their unbeaten run to six games in all competitions with their Notts Senior Cup First Round win.

Wednesday say four more county cup ties with Leon Howarth's double helping Handsworth to a 3-2 home victory over league rivals Penistone Church in the First Round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup.

Mitchell Dunne had earlier broken the deadlock for the Express Worktops Stadium @ Olivers Mount hosts whilst Kieran Ryan and Nathan Keightley kept the visitors in the game with goals in the second period.

In the Second Round, there was an excellent 4-2 win for Hallam over Frickley Athletic, an early double for Kieran Watson added to by James Gregory and Max Pemberton to see them through at the expense of their Pitching In Northern Premier League opponents.

Parkgate dispatched High Green Villa by the same scoreline with William Wraith, Brandon Bagley, Gavin O'Reilly and Bradley Kilburn finding the net for the Steelmen.

And, in the Notts Senior Cup, Jamie York and Ewan Robson scored for Sherwood Colliery in a 2-1 win at Midland League hosts Eastwood Community.

There were two Premier Division matches with Thackley coming from behind to win 3-1 at Albion Sports to move up into fifth spot.

Jaydan Sandhu had given the Lions a first half lead that was held until the last quarter-of-an-hour when a double from Ben Grech-Brooksbank, sandwiching a goal from Christopher Lever, helped to give the visitors all three points.

And, Staveley Miners Welfare jump five places to eighth after Charlie Oglesby and Declan Howe struck in the opening ten minutes to claim a 2-0 home victory over Emley AFC at Inkersall Road.
