Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2021/22 #7

26th August, 2021

Eccleshill United and Maltby Main both bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup in midweek as they were beaten on their travels in their Preliminary Round replays.

Eccleshill went down 5-1 at North West Counties League side Charnock Richard with Luke Aldrich's goal towards the start of the second period being the only joy on a disappointing night for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Maltby were not able to cause an upset at their Pitching In Northern Premier League hosts Carlton Town who scored the only goal of the game in the third minute.

That means three sides - Handsworth, Sherwood Colliery and Winterton Rangers - will represent the Toolstation NCEL in First Round Qualifying that takes place at the start of September.

With Barton Town's trip to Winterton Rangers in the Premier Division called off as a COVID-19 precaution, the midweek league action was focused solely on Division One where there were nine matches and plenty of goals.

Selby Town's lead at the top of the table has been reduced to one point after their 3-3 home draw with Retford FC in a match where they trailed 2-0 at the interval thanks to a Zach Casburn double.

Harry Clapham halved the deficit and Liam Flanagan's penalty restored parity by the 51st minute and Jon-Paul Vass put the Robins in front for the first time before a Dylan Parkin own goal secured the visitors a point in the 86th minute.

Nostell Miners Welfare, Brigg Town, Rossington Main and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic all won to close the gap on the summit.

Nostell were 4-1 home victors over Shirebrook Town having gone behind to an early Joseph O'Neil own goal with Anees Younis' first half equaliser added to in the second period by Alexander Haigh, Nathan Hawkhead and Danny Edwards.

An eleven minute second half hat-trick from Stephen McCarrow helped Brigg to a 7-2 demolition of hosts Armthorpe Welfare, Alfie Usher's double as well as goals from Andrew Taylor and Dayle Hutson completing the rout whilst Reece High and Jack Wilson got on the scoresheet for the home side.

Rossington were 2-0 victors at Clipstone, Curtis Birchall's seventh minute own goal added to by Jack Watson in the final quarter-of-an-hour and Worsbrough defeated visitors Parkgate 3-0.

Lewis O'Connor opened the scoring for the Briggers before Michael Jepps sealed the victory with two goals after the interval.

Hallam's first win of the season was a big one as they thrashed Hall Road Rangers 7-0 at Sandygate with all of the goals coming in the second period.

Brandon Bradbury, Niall Smith and Iren Wilson had the Countrymen 3-0 up within eleven minutes of the restart with an Liam Royles hat-trick and Danny Deakin strike completing the scoring.

North Ferriby struck twice in quick succession around the hour mark, Joel Shortland and Danny East with the goals, as the Villagers beat visitors FC Humber United 2-0 and climb to ninth.

And, Teversal took a 2-0 lead at home to neighbours Rainworth Miners Welfare, Cameron Pinnick and George Simpson netting for them, but Craig Mitchell and Archie Williams made it 2-2 in the second period to deny their hosts their first victory of the campaign.
