Keith Hackett is new Toolstation NCEL president

30th September, 2021

The board of the Toolstation Northern Counties East Football League is delighted to announce the appointment of former Premier League referee Keith Hackett as the competition's new president.

He replaces Howard Webb who stepped down from the role in the summer after holding the position for ten years.

After a distinguished career in refereeing, both nationally and internationally, Keith became a referees' observer before, in March 2004, he was appointed general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Board.

More recently, he has had a keen interest in NCEL football in his role as president at Premier Division side Penistone Church.

After accepting the position, Keith said: "I am honoured to accept the role of president of the Northern Counties East Football League.

"I have in recent years come to enjoy and appreciate the quality of the league and the enjoyment that it generates for the community over a wide area of the country.

"I accept this position knowing in my own heart that my refereeing colleague and friend over many years David Morrall, who has contributed to the success of this competition, would have been the ideal candidate if it had not been for his illness.

"In my role I will promote the league both at home and overseas with the thoughts of David who I know loved his involvement with this outstanding competition."
