Duffield Takes Charge Of Badgers
13th May, 2007
Just a fortnight after they claimed the NCEL Premier Division title, Retford United have announced a change of management.
Following Mark Shaw's departure in midweek, the club have revealed that Peter Duffield has taken charge of the First Team.
He will be assisted by Neil Tooth and Mick Godber as the Cannon Park outfit prepare for life in the UniBond League.
A spokesperson said: "The club would like to place on record their sincere thanks to all the applicants for the role, but decided that it would be a good move to promote from within.
"Peter Duffield was one of the most consistent players last season, missing only a handful of games, and with the support of Tooth and Godber will be relishing the chance to further improve the clubs status within the non-league pyramid.
"Retford United FC would like to wish the trio all the very best for the future and look forward to even more success at Cannon Park."
Meanwhile, the club have also put on record their "sincere thanks" to Shaw whose two seasons in charge at the club had culminated in promotion to the UniBond League.

Striker Praised For Not Having A Shot!
29th August, 2006
Retford United's top scorer Neil Harvey stepped into the breach and played IN GOAL for the Badgers in yesterday's 1-0 win over Pickering Town.
United keeper Chris Kingston was stuck in traffic in Leeds and was not able to get to the game.
Harvey, who had scored four goals for Retford eight days earlier against Tadcaster Albion, stepped in.
Gloves were purchased from a local sports shop only around an hour before kick off.
And, much to the delight of the home fans, Harvey played well and reacted well when called upon.
A Vill Powell penalty in the 40th minute settled it in front of a crowd of 202, but Harvey must be praised for his performance, the only time a striker is praised for not scoring - or even having a shot at goal!

Badgers Sign Godber
15th August, 2006
Retford United have swooped and added to their firepower with the signing of Mick Godber who has been released from Alfreton Town.
Godber, 33, joins the Badgers after spells with Alfreton Town, Worksop Town, Sheffield FC and Ossett Albion.
He has been a prolific goalscorer at Conference North Level and was top scorer in the Northern Counties East League with 36 goals a few years ago.
He has great Unibond and Nationwide North experience where he helped Alfreton with over 100 goals in about 200 apearances.
Badgers fans had a glimpse of him in action as he played in the pre-season friendly matches against Lincoln City and Blackwell Miners Welfare.
But, they will be excited with the prospect of his full debut next week as he links up with the already potent strike force at Cannon Park.
Several clubs were vying for his signature from Northern Counties Premier, Unibond and Northern Conferences League.
But, the chance to link up with former team mates Peter Duffield and Steve Woolley, and the Badgers long term plans made it easy for Godber to agree to come to Cannon Park.
Due to a suspension from last season, Mick will be available for selection for the away league game at Sutton Town.

Manager Issues Title Warning
30th July, 2006
Retford United manager Mark Shaw has issued a warning to his Northern Counties East League Premier Division opponents: "We'll take you all by surprise."
Shaw believes the ambitious club will build on their ascension from Division One by achieving back-to-back promotions and continuing their climb up the football pyramid.
The Cannon Park boss said: "I think we have got a very good chance of winning the league this season without much problem."
"We have got strength in depth. We have got players who have grown up a year. Having won something last year, that winning feeling is in our blood and we are hungry for it week in, week out."
"The players have come back and they're fit and they've got a positive attitude."
"We see ourselves as contenders. Those clubs who have written us off might be in for a shock."
But there are still areas Shaw would like to improve in his squad.
"I'd like us to be more physical," Shaw added. "The players have got a great attitude but one of the differences when you step up a level is in the physicality."
