Leeds Met Watched By Ex-England Boss
22nd April, 2008
Leeds Met Carnegie's 3-0 NCEL Division One win over Pontefract Collieries last night was watched by a very special guest.
Former England manager Glenn Hoddle was part of the crowd at Throstle Nest to see a brace from John Forrest and a Kev Ryan strike seal the points.
He was visiting the University to support an awards evening for those who spend all their free-time running the clubs there on a voluntary basis.
His appearance at the game was a pleasant surprise for the players and supporters and the night got even better as the victory secured them a top seven finish in their opening season in the NCEL.

Leeds Met Player Selected For England
21st January, 2008
Leeds Met Carnegie's Luke Wildman has won a call up to the England Universities Football Squad.
He is in the initial squad of 28 players that, after a series of warm-up games, will be reduced to 20 to compete at April's British University Games in Scotland.
The players were selected after representing the Northern Universities Team, coached by John Hall, in a two day tournament in Warwick.
Wildman is a defender who played for the West Riding County FA and Farsley Celtic Reserves before signing for Carnegie this season. He has been ever present in both the BUSA and NCEL teams.
He is one of two Leeds Met Carnegie students to be in the squad.
Goalkeeper Jonathan Mclaughlin recently played for Harrogate Railway in the televised FA Cup game against Mansfield Town but now turns out for neighbours Harrogate Town.
John Hall, Carnegie Director of Football and Northern Universities Manager, said: "I'm delighted for Jonathan and Luke who have done exceptionally well throughout the selection process.
"They are both great lads who are committed to their sport and are fully deserving of their selection.
"Both players were outstanding at the weekend which not only looked at their playing ability but also their suitability to be part of a group in tournament conditions.
"Hopefully, they can impress enough in the warm up games to be selected for British University Games in Scotland."

Carnegie Match Is Free
19th October, 2007
Leeds Met Carnegie have announced that tomorrow's NCEL Division One match against AFC Emley will be free admission.
It will be part of a 'Football Festival' throughout the day.
Students, staff, alumni and friends of the university are invited to join in the family fun at the home of Leeds Met Carnegie, Farsley Celtic's Throstle Nest ground.
At the festival, local school children who are part of the partnership with Leeds Schools FA and Leeds Met Carnegie FC, will take part in a mini football tournament.
There will also be activities and entertainment throughout the day, including a bouncy castle, samba band and refreshments.
The festival starts at 12.30pm and tickets are available from Leeds Met's Headingley Campus or Civic Quarter Campus.
Alternatively just come along on the day and experience Leeds Met Carnegie F.C. for free.
Secretary and co-organiser James Earl said: "Leeds Met Carnegie FC are working hard to reintroduce the family atmosphere to the grass roots game and are hoping that this day will be a great advert for Northern Counties East football."
The Met have started to find form and, after a convincing win last weekend at Borrowash Victoria, the side - made up of students and alumni of Leeds Met - will be looking to gather momentum and climb the league ladder.
