Golcar announce Connor brothers step down

7th June, 2025

NCEL Premier Division side Golcar United have announced that, after eleven-and-a-half years in joint charge of the team, brothers Ashley and Gavin Connor are stepping down as joint managers.

A statement released by the club paid tribute to the pair, saying: "During their tenure, the club has experienced some unforgettable moments and major successes - league titles, cup victories and finals, and a historic promotion from the North West Counties League.

"These achievements have shaped the club's recent history and will be cherished by everyone associated with Golcar United.

"Ash and Gav leave the club in a much stronger position than when they arrived.

"Their leadership, passion and tireless commitment have place a massive role in elevating Golcar United both on and off the pitch.

"Behind the scenes, they have been supported by an exceptional team of individuals - committee members, trustees, volunteers, backroom staff, coaches and, of course, the players - all of whom Ash and Gav have expressed deep gratitude to.

"Just as importantly, the fans have played a vital part on this journey, many of whom have become friends and part of the extended Golcar United family.

"We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Ash and Gav for their years of dedication, passion, and their love for Golcar United.

"Their legacy is firmly etched into the club's history and will always be welcomed at the Skye Direct Stadium.

"We wish them all the very best in their next step in football."

The pair reflected on their time in charge with a huge amount of pride, adding: "It's been an absolute pleasure managing this team over the past eleven seasons.

"We want to thank every player, member of staff, volunteer and every single fan who have supported us through this journey.

"We're incredibly proud of what we've achieved together and we look forward to seeing what comes next for the club."

An announcement regarding the next appointment will be made on the club's website soon.
