Debrouwer's Half Century is NCEL First
25th March, 2014
Kieran Debrouwer's goal may not have been enough to get any points for Heanor Town on Saturday but it put him into the record books as the first ever player to net fifty goals for an NCEL club in a season.
His strike in the 2-1 home defeat to Staveley Miners Welfare was his 37th in the Premier Division and, when added to the thirteen he has netted in cup competitions, it took him to the milestone with potentially eleven games still remaining in his side's campaign.
The previous known record was 46 by Armthorpe Welfare's Liam Hardy in the 2009/10 season and, although there are six seasons in the league's history where the goalscoring charts included league matches only, it is more than reasonable to infer from those that this is the first time anyone has reached the fifty mark.
Debrouwer's tally included two four-goal hauls, against Lincoln Moorlands Railway and Retford United, whilst he claimed hat-tricks in seven other matches.
The 37 goals he has in the league is also a new record and all at the Toolstation NCEL would like to congratulate him on his achievement.
