Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #71

27th April, 2014

The final round of Toolstation NCEL league matches ended with Premier Division champions Brighouse Town smashing through the 100 points barrier whilst Shaw Lane Aquaforce were confirmed the second promotion place in Division One.

A hat-trick from Luke Gibson helped Brighouse to a 6-2 victory at Bridlington Town to end a wonderful campaign for them on 101 points, having won 32 of their 44 games this season.

Tadcaster Albion were 4-0 winners at Liversedge, with Carl Stewart getting a hat-trick for the Brewers, and they will now have to wait for the result of their points deduction appeal to see if they end the campaign as runners-up.

Gareth Barlow netted twice to help Barton Town Old Boys to a 4-0 home victory over Heanor Town and they will also be waiting for Tadcaster's appeal to see whether they finish in second or third spot.

A 71st minute strike from Nathan Forbes-Swindells earned Worksop Parramore a 3-2 win at Armthorpe Welfare to finish on 92 points having already secured fourth place.

Albion Sports end in the top six after Karl Hall's hat-trick helped them to a 5-2 home win against Athersley Recreation, ahead of Pickering Town who climbed into seventh with a 4-0 victory at Nostell Miners Welfare with Josh Greening being another of the day's three goal heroes.

Bottom side Lincoln Moorlands Railway's season ended in the same way as the majority of the campaign has gone for them as they went down 5-1 at Staveley Miners Welfare whilst the other side in the relegation zone, Winterton Rangers, finished with a victory, Ryan Thompson netting twice as they beat visitors Glasshoughton Welfare, 3-1.

Maltby Main won 3-1 at Long Eaton United and Retford United were 2-1 victors at home to Garforth Town whilst there was a 2-2 draw for Thackley at Parkgate.

In Division One, second-placed Aquaforce were without a game and knew that anything less than a twenty goal victory for Bottesford Town would be good enough for them to finish in the top two.

In the end, Bottesford were beaten 3-0 at Grimsby Borough, courtesy of goals from Luke Fanthorpe, Kyle Bensley and George Newby and Aquaforce, as well as champions Cleethorpes Town, who ended their season with a 3-1 win at bottom side Appleby Frodingham, will move up into the Premier Division.

Eccleshill United finish fourth after their 2-0 home victory over Hall Road Rangers whilst Shirebrook Town's 1-1 draw at AFC Emley ensures they end the campaign in fifth place.

Liam Gray and Blaine Hobson struck for Knaresborough Town in their 2-0 win at Dinnington Town to complete the top six.

It was then announced that it was Dinnington's last game in the NCEL as they were resigning from the league at the end of the season, ending eight years in the competition.

There were final day wins for Rossington Main and Hemsworth Miners Welfare who defeated their hosts Selby Town, 3-1, and Teversal, 2-1, respectively.

Clipstone were 4-0 victors at home to Hallam to finish seventh and there was a 1-1 draw between Dronfield Town and Pontefract Collieries.
