Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #63
30th March, 2014
All of the top three sides in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division won on Saturday to keep the title race wide open whilst the chase for the Division One crown also continues to be a nailbiter.
Tadcaster Albion maintained their seven point lead at the summit of the Premier Division as they won 4-0 at Bridlington Town, Rikki Paylor's own goal and strikes from Carl Stewart and Callum Ward giving them a three goal advantage by the break before a fourth was added in second half stoppage time by Danny Critchlow.
Barton Town Old Boys were 6-0 victors at Glashoughton Welfare to stay second with two games in hand of Tadcaster, Ashley Lattimore, Gareth Barlow, Ryan Cooper and Scott Phillips putting the game beyond doubt by the interval before Cooper got his second and Henry Gill added the sixth in the second period.
And, goals from Tom Matthews and Jason Price earned third-placed Brighouse Town a 2-0 win at Nostell Miners Welfare to keep them eight points off the top but with four matches more to play.
Nostell, meanwhile, remain out of the bottom two as both Lincoln Moorlands Railway and Winterton Rangers were beaten on their travels.
Moorlands lost 6-0 at Long Eaton United with Shaun Rickford's brace helping the hosts to a comfortable victory and Rangers were beaten 4-0 at Worksop Parramore who stay fifth.
Thackley won on their travels, 3-1 at Staveley Miners Welfare, whilst two goals in the last ten minutes from Billy Grogan and Eli Hey saw Liversedge defeat visitors Armthorpe Welfare, 3-2.
There were home victories for Pickering Town and Retford United, 2-1 over Parkgate and 1-0 over Basford United, respectively.
In Division One, honours were even in the clash between third and first with John Cyrus' injury-time equaliser rescuing a point for Shaw Lane Aquaforce in a 1-1 draw at home to Cleethorpes Town after Chris Funnell's 65th minute opener.
Second-placed Bottesford Town, however, could not capitalise as they went down 4-3 at Selby Town, Jamie Wilstrop with a hat-trick helping the hosts into a four goal lead before the visitors almost staged a late comeback but ran out of time.
It means Cleethorpes still head the pack on 79 points, two ahead of Bottesford and three ahead of Aquaforce, but they have played one game more than both of their rivals.
Fourth-placed Worsbrough Bridge Athletic drew 1-1 at AFC Emley as Liam McFadyen's early penalty was cancelled out at the death by Antony Leech for the hosts.
Knaresborough Town are fifth, heading a group of five teams on 66 points, after their 4-0 victory at basement side Appleby Frodingham who are now confirmed, along with Louth Town, to finish in the relegation zone.
Louth were beaten by a Luke Fanthorpe hat-trick, 3-2 at Grimsby Borough, whilst the team outside the bottom two, Hallam, were 1-0 winners at Yorkshire Amateur to make it mathematically impossible for them to be caught by the sides below them.
Clipstone won their local derby at home to Shirebrook Town, 2-0, and Eccleshill United were single goal victors over Hemsworth Miners Welfare and there was a 1-1 draw between Rossington Main and Hall Road Rangers.
And, Dinnington Town moved up two places to seventeenth with their 3-0 victory at Dronfield Town.
