Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #57

9th March, 2014

The top three sides in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division all won as the title race enters the final straight whilst Bottesford Town increased their lead at the top of Division One on Saturday to eight points.

Nick Thompson's tenth minute header kept Tadcaster Albion at the summit of the Premier Division as they beat visitors Worksop Parramore, 1-0, to remain three points ahead of Barton Town Old Boys who won 6-2 at fifth-placed Pickering Town.

The Swans made it 21 games without defeat by racing into a three goal advantage by the interval thanks to strikes from Ryan Cooper, Ashley Lattimore and Ashley Dexter before Scott Phillips increased their lead on 64 minutes.

Pickering pulled a couple back through Tony Hackworth but Gareth Barlow then netted twice late on to complete the victory for the visitors.

Danny Nadiole scored a brace whilst Ernest Boafo and Tom Matthews also found the net in third-placed Brighouse Town's 4-1 home win over Garforth Town and they stay ten points off the top but with a number of matches in hand over the sides above them.

Wins for Heanor Town, Retford United, Athersley Recreation and Long Eaton United saw them all move up in the top ten with just two points separating fifth spot and twelfth.

Kieran Debrouwer's spot kick, his 44th goal of the season, and Gary Webster's goal earned Heanor a 2-1 home victory against Bridlington Town whilst doubles each for Reece Thompson and Gavin Cooper helped Retford beat hosts Thackley, 5-2.

Athersley were 4-0 winners at bottom side Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Daniel Joynes netting twice whilst Kieron Scargill and Lee Bennett also got themselves on the scoresheet, and Long Eaton were 3-2 victors at Albion Sports in dramatic fashion as Courey Grantham scored an injury-time winner.

In the fight to avoid relegation, Railway look stranded at the bottom of the table but Nostell Miners Welfare picked up their second win in a row as Joe Penn's 61st minute strike got all three points at home to Liversedge and they are now just one point from safety as Winterton Rangers lost 2-1 at Maltby Main.

Parkgate defeated Staveley Miners Welfare 3-1 at Green Lane whilst Del Pollock's late equaliser saw Glasshoughton Welfare come away from Armthorpe Welfare with a 1-1 draw.

In Division One, Bottesford are now unbeaten in seventeen matches after their comprehensive 6-0 home victory over Yorkshire Amateur, Karl Slack and a Terry Barwick penalty had them in control after just seventeen minutes and then Danny Boulton, Craig Bridge and Martin Pembleton (2) made sure in the second period.

Cleethorpes Town's title challenge continued to stutter as they were beaten by a 23rd minute strike from Lee Holmes, going down 1-0 at home to Rossington Main.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce go above them into second as Danny Frost's first-half goal earned them a 1-0 win at fellow promotion hopefuls Pontefract Collieries.

Clipstone and Shirebrook Town both go above Ponte in the top five after victories with Steve Carty, Ian Hillier and Gary Armstrong scoring for Clipstone in their 3-1 win at relegation-threatened Louth Town.

An Aaron Moxam brace, one at the end of each half, secured Shirebrook a 2-1 home victory over Eccleshill United after a Marcus Edwards penalty in the second-half looked set to share the spoils.

Grant Allott was one of two hat-trick heroes on the day in the NCEL as his trio of strikes helped Dinnington Town to a 7-3 home win over bottom side Appleby Frodingham, the other came from Nicholas Guest in Hemsworth Miners Welfare's 5-2 defeat of visitors Hallam.

Dronfield Town were 4-0 home winners against Grimsby Borough whilst Knaresborough Town were also victorious on their own patch, beating Selby Town, 3-1, and AFC Emley won 3-0 at Hall Road Rangers.
