Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #14
26th September, 2013
Both Long Eaton United and Parkgate won their FA Carlsberg Vase replays on their travels in midweek to claim their places in the First Round Proper.
Long Eaton were 1-0 victors at Ellistown & Ibstock United, thanks to a 76th minute strike from Shaun Rickford, whilst Parkgate went through on penalties at Bacup & Rossendale Borough after their game had finished goalless after extra-time.
That means fifteen of our sides will take part in the next stage of the competition which takes place in mid-October.
In the Premier Division, Thackley returned to the top of the table after their 2-1 home win over Basford United, Damian Hopkins and Luke Richardson with their goals in the second period after Martin Carruthers had given the visitors a first half lead.
They are two points ahead of Tadcaster Albion who climbed up into second with a 1-1 draw at Albion Sports, Daniel Barrett with their equaliser on 72 minutes soon after Karl Hall had broken the deadlock for the hosts.
Garforth Town and Athersley Recreation are up into the top five after away victories with Garforth winning 2-0 at Pickering Town, Nick Black and CJ Lyle with the goals in the last quarter of the game, and Rec beat Barton Town Old Boys, 2-1.
The misery continued for the bottom two sides with Nostell Miners Welfare losing 2-0 at Staveley Miners Welfare whilst Lincoln Moorlands Railway were defeated 6-0 at Heanor Town.
Michael Trench and Jordan Turner got the late goals for Staveley whilst Kieran de Brouwer's hat-trick helped Heanor to their comfortable victory.
Brian Cusworth netted twice for Maltby Main in their 4-1 win at Liversedge whilst Armthorpe Welfare beat visitors Winterton Rangers, 3-1, and Worksop Parramore defeated hosts Glasshoughton Welfare, 2-0.
Shaw Lane Aquaforce have extended their lead at the summit of Division One to four points by beating the side who were second, Eccleshill United, 2-0, Danny Frost opening the scoring on 75 minutes before Danny Barlow added a second from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
Bottesford Town climbed above Eccleshill with a 4-0 home victory over AFC Emley, Danny Boulton scoring twice with further goals from Chris MacDonald and Craig Bridge.
Cleethorpes Town are now fourth after their 2-1 win against the side they share their ground with, Grimsby Borough, in front of a crowd of 305 at the Bradley Football Development Centre.
Louis Grant put Grimsby, who were the "away" side, ahead after eight minutes but Johnathan Oglesby levelled and Nathan Emson got what would be the winner before the interval.
Scott Turner struck twice in Worsbrough Bridge Athletic's 2-1 win at Knaresborough Town which means they are now up into fifth.
Appleby Frodingham moved out of the bottom two with a 2-1 victory at Hemsworth Miners Welfare but basement side Dinnington Town were beaten 5-0 at Pontefract Collieries.
Fellow strugglers Louth Town and Dronfield Town also tasted defeat, 2-0 at Hall Road Rangers and 4-1 at Shirebrook Town, respectively.
Clipstone struck three times in the last six minutes to win 5-2 at Rossington Main whilst Teversal left it late to take a point at Hallam, Danny Swales with the 87th minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw, and Selby Town were single goal victors at Yorkshire Amateur.
