Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2013/14 #65
6th April, 2014
A home defeat for Toolstation NCEL Premier Division leaders Tadcaster Albion means that the chasing pack have closed the gap on the Brewers in the title chase.
Thomas Carr's 63rd minute penalty saw Glasshoughton Welfare take all three points from 2inspire Park in a 1-0 victory and Tadcaster's defeat was pounced on by their nearest rivals for the crown, Brighouse Town and Barton Town Old Boys, who both won.
A hat-trick from Tom Matthews helped Brighouse to a 5-2 win at home to Worksop Parramore who have a slight chance themselves of lifting the trophy in fifth spot but with games in hand.
However, Brighouse must be considered the favourites to finish first as they are now two points behind Tadcaster with three matches more to play.
Third-placed Barton Town Old Boys are still in the hunt, though, following their dramatic 3-2 victory at Thackley, Scott Phillips netting in injury time to take all three points from Dennyfield.
Basford United go above Parramore into fourth after their second win over Bridlington Town in three days, a 3-1 victory at home adding to the 7-0 win at the Neil Hudgell Law Stadium on Wednesday.
Heanor Town complete the top six after their 5-0 home victory over Liversedge, Jak Lightly grabbing a late brace for the Lions whilst Kieran Debrouwer notched up his 54th goal of the season.
All of the three teams fighting to avoid the relegation zone were beaten with basement side Lincoln Moorlands Railway now on the verge of having their bottom two finish confirmed after a 6-0 home loss to Retford United.
Reece Thompson struck a hat-trick for the Badgers against a Railway side who have now conceded 200 goals in the competition and need to win their last four games to have any chance of moving out of the drop zone.
Winterton Rangers stay below the dotted line with Railway after their 4-1 home loss to Long Eaton United, two points behind Nostell Miners Welfare who lost 2-0 at Garforth Town but having played one game more.
Brian Cusworth's hat-trick helped fifteenth-placed Maltby Main to a 5-1 win over visitors Athersley Recreation whilst Albion Sports won 6-2 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare and Pickering Town beat hosts Armthorpe Welfare by the same scoreline.
Cleethorpes Town are back at the top of Division One, taking over from Shaw Lane Aquaforce who were without a game, after their 4-2 home win over Selby Town, Johnathan Oglesby's brace helping them to three vital points.
Third-placed Bottesford Town's title hopes took a knock as an 18th minute Steve Carty goal saw them lose 1-0 at home to Clipstone who are fifth.
Shirebrook Town maintained fourth spot with a 3-1 home victory over local rivals Teversal whilst Pontefract Collieries are up to sixth as doubles from Andrew Catton and Liam Radford helped them to beat the bottom side Appleby Frodingham, 5-1, at the Beechnut Lane Stadium.
App-Frod's bottom two finish has already been confirmed alongside Louth Town who were beaten 1-0 at home by AFC Emley to continue their woes, Steve Kenworthy with the winner on 73 minutes.
In fact, all six of the bottom seven sides who were in action were all beaten with Hallam going down 4-0 at home to Eccleshill United whilst Yorkshire Amateur lost 1-0 at Rossington Main, Dinnington Town went down 5-2 at Hall Road Rangers and Grimsby Borough fell to a 2-1 defeat at Knaresborough Town.
But, there was joy for fifteenth-placed Dronfield Town who won 2-1 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic with an injury-time strike from Lewis Naylor separating the sides.
