Maltby name interim management team

19th March, 2024

Maltby Main have announced their new interim management team whose first appearance in the dugout will be tonight for the home game against Albion Sports FC.

Former Rotherham United player Joe Skarz, who most recently was turning out for Liversedge in the Pitching In Northern Premier League, and current Maltby player Joe Austin will take charge for the final six matches of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season.

A statement released by the Miners said: "The club would like to thank club legend Joe Austin for stepping up and supporting the team and Joe Skarz for the remainder of the season.

"With nearly 300 appearances, and hopefully more to come, Joe will bring a wealth of Maltby Main knowledge to the team at a time when the club needs him most.

"After speaking to Joe Skarz over the last few days, he will be joining the club for the remaining six games of the season.

"Joe will be doing this alongside his commitments with Rotherham United Under 18s and the Youth Development Phase.

"Joe is a UEFA A Licenced coach and, with his coaching and playing background and undoubted love for the game, we are delighted he has chosen to join the club in these difficult circumstances.

"We would also like to thank Liversedge, and in particular their manager John Rimmington, for allowing this to happen.

"On accepting the role, Joe Skarz said: 'I love a challenge and this is a big one.

"'The easy option would have been to say no but that's not what I'm about as a person.

"'The season starts now and we have six finals to play.'"

The pair take over from Andy Dawson and Lee Whitehead who stepped down at the weekend with the Miners bottom of the table, six points away from safety.
