Maltby management team step down after Garforth loss

17th March, 2024

Maltby Main have announced that management duo Andy Dawson and Lee Whitehead have stepped down from their roles at the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division club.

The pair returned to the dugout at Muglet Lane in December with the club looking to stave off relegation but Saturday's 8-0 loss at Garforth Town means that the Miners are bottom of the table, six points away from safety with six games to play.

A statement released by the club on Sunday evening said: "Unfortunately, after yesterday’s result our joint managers Lee Whitehead and Andy Dawson have decided to inform the club they want to step down from their roles.

"We wish Lee and Andy all the very best, we thank them for coming in at a difficult time and making the changes for the better in the playing squad, especially over a busy Christmas and New Year.

"But it hasn't worked out, especially over the last two games; and we have accepted their want to step away.

"We have a game to fulfil on Tuesday [at home to Albion Sports] and we will now be concentrating on that from this point; then putting something together to cover the last five games of the season.

"No more comments will be made on this; but we will follow this up very soon when we have put a new measure in place to cover the remainder of the season."
